Youre right about the pricing. It wasnt any cheaper for buffet, at any of the places that I checked out except for maybe windows on the lake. I didn't do it because I wanted to be cheap about it, but it offers your guests a wider variety of food to choose from during dinner and allows them to choose when they want to eat.

I guess it just depends on the formality of everyones wedding. If your going to have a super formal wedding than a buffet wouldnt be an option, but for those of us who are having less formal weddings, it can be a lot of fun, and less restrictive.

we chose to have carving stations for our wedding - it's basically going to be a 6 hour rolling cocktail party. Sit down dinners are not us - we wanted the party to keep going!

I don't think anyone can say what is 'too' informal for a wedding - weddings these days can be any style, any formality. Our wedding will be formal and dressy. Nothing about the way we are choosing to eat our food is going to take away from the 'formality' of the event!

ETA: everyone has to sit and eat...having a buffet dinner has nothing to do with keeping the party going

We really wanted to choose the buffet style dinner but it was only $10 cheaper, so we felt it really wasn't worth it and for the extra 10 bucks you get so much more food, so I think we are going to end up doing a sit down.

I had a rolling cocktail party, some would consider it a buffet; my wedding was very formal. It did not lose it's formality but just made it less boring for everyone! No sitting around waiting for dinner talking to people you don't like

A continous cocktail hour IMO, is different then a buffet wedding IMO. We wanted one, it's actually considered a Gatsby style wedding when done correctly and Timberpoint was the only one that we found that would do it for us close to the way it's supposed to be. But sadly we were out voted, sit down was the way the families really wanted to go.

I am not a big fan of buffets at all! If I was going to do a buffet then I would rather a continuous cocktail hour.

my buffet is costing the same about as a sit-down dinner, if not more actually.

When we went to windowns we were told that the buffet would be a lot cheaper than if we did a formal sit down.

We had a sit sown dinner because that's what we wanted, but IMO its your day & what you & your FH want is what's important! How formal your wedding is, is definitely decided by you as well & I don't think the way food is served has anything to do with it.

I want to do buffet, and Im not telling anyone about it LOL The family will discover when they get there. I like it b/c my FH and his brothers and friends and most of the girls on my side dont really eat carbs, some stay away from fat, I am a vegetarian.. I love to pick and choose and if Im hungry when Im ready Ill get more etc... Im not a formal kinda gal... though I dont thin kit takes away from a wedding. FH and I are more like, karaoke, barefoot on the beach LOL Remember - we wanted the destination wedding in the first place.. LOL
