Northport, Kings Park folks.. I got lost today.. (question) see spooky GTG thread as well.

So I had a doctors appt in Northport. My healthcare provider's website seems to feel Northport is 0.1 mile away!! haha

So as Im trying to drive home from Fort Santago?? Rd.. I was on Pulaski. Apparently I missed my turn off. Ended up in some wooded area. Really kinda nice, can't wait for spring kinda feel.

Drove past a State Park starts with an N? What's the name of this place?

Lots of old buildings around that are over grown, looked like institutions.

Finally got totally lost and ended up on E. Main Street and Hawthrone. I was on Old Dock? Called Jim and got back on track. The address I was at was a Texaco in Kings Park.

Any help on the name of park?

Thanks!

Nissequoge State Park

It was once part of the Kings Park Psychiatric Center.

Re: Northport, Kings Park folks.. I got lost today.. (question)

Here's a link to the Park: Nissequogue River State Park

The park is at the very end of the road. Most of the buildings you drove past aren't part of park and only a couple of them are actually operating buildings.

Re: Northport, Kings Park folks.. I got lost today.. (question)

My great grandparents met there - she was a nurse, he used the grounds to smuggle alcohol.

I had a great uncle go there as a patient in his early 20's. He died there.

Oy! The reason you got lost is b/c when you were on Pulaski Road you were in Kings Park, and Fort Salonga Road is 25A...it's not called Fort Salonga road for a few miles up when you reach Fort Salonga.

I can't believe you went in KPCC---it's soooo creepy in there!

Those buildings are so magnificant. We don't make large buildings like that anymore.

Shame they can't make it into a community college or something.

ah... see I was trying to use reverse mapquest printed directions, just using my directions going backward. heh

I like to get lost, (haha yes, pun seen and acknowledged) as long as I have a full tank of gas. I like to see the 'off road'.

As a non-islander, I think you guys have lots of history and pretty areas that go mostly unvisited because it's not the 'fastest' way to something.

Jim is one of those 'know only his area' types. Im one of those, 'see it all in the area' types. Just no time lately to go out on a Sunday Drive. And it's cold.

Come on spring! I want to go exploring!

They tried that. The land was up for sale for a long time and I think has finally been sold to a developer who will make different types of homes. It's still up in the air though. There was another developer once who had to back out when Kings County had a claim to the land. (Kings Park Psych Center was once city-owned).

Re: Northport, Kings Park folks.. I got lost today.. (question)

Actually, the Fort Salonga Association is currently in an uproar because of the developer who currently may be awarded the land ... a builder of gov't sponsored 'project-like' apts in Brooklyn.

Dude, I say a roadtrip is in the works!! Old buildings are spooky to me and give me a charge. I would never have the nerve to go exploring by myself!! Same with Pilgrim State.
