Need help from newlyweds that used votive candles as placecards

I just got back from AC Moore and bought my votive candle holders. Now, after I get home with them.... FH is going off on a tangent about how people are 'going to burn themselves' and he doesn't want 'his wedding to turn into a tragic event'... (yes, hes a drama queen!!)

ok .. stop laughing.... will the brides that used votive candleholders as placecards please give me your opinions.. thanks!!

AND... freeze the candles beforehand so they last longer...

FH is 'requesting' first hand knowledge from the brides that have done this already... I guess us brides to be arent knowledgeable enough in his eyes!

I was at AC Moore tonight doing the same thing. I purchased the tea lights b/c I had read from another one of the girls that did it that they didn't get as hot as votives.

Re: Need help from newlyweds that used votive candles as placecards

Hi, I am using Laura from LAProductions for these and she is using tealites vs. candles so the glass wont get very hot. I am sure that the only inferno you and DH will have at your wedding will be the disco inferno your DJ/band plays (sorry I know corny but couldn't pass that u!) Good luck!

All our guests LOVED the votive placecards. No one burned themselves. Laura (from LA Productions) used tealights.

Here are some pictures the table of votives and of the guests with votive placecards that you can show your FI.

What does that mean?? Boys crack me up.

I haven't had the guest experience yet but mine are all made and ready to go. We did do a few testers and while the top did get hot (tealights), the base was always cool. And, we're asking that they're not lit until 10 min before the guests would be asked to move into the ballroom.

Re: Need help from newlyweds that used votive candles as placecards

I made my votive holders myself. I used clear votives from Michaels and then put the vellum paper with the names and table numbers around the holders. We used tealights as well and not one person hurt thier hands. All I get are raves about them.

They came out so nice! We tested one at home with a tealight and it was fine.

Im glad to see someone who used them at WCC.

Re: Need help from newlyweds that used votive candles as placecards

first hand knowledge - do a test!!!!

put a tealight into one and light it up and let it sit. I did this and the glass did not get hot...even 4 hours later!

Re: Need help from newlyweds that used votive candles as placecards

I love the candles like that but if your FH feels really strongly, you guys can do what we did for our wedding, we used them as actual placecandles (as opposed to escort cards) and they were actually at everyones seat.
Then I had the Maitre D tape a penny under one of them at each table and that was who brought home the centerpiece!

It was cute b/c the DJ announced that everyone should look under their candles for the penny and when people found it they would stand up and hold up their little candle and everyone would clap.

I think we were out taking pictures during this or something but I saw it all on the video.

Anyway it was nice too b.c it added a glow to the room and candles around the centerpiece.

Around how much you spend on this if you do it yourself? And does it take a long time to do them?

Re: Need help from newlyweds that used votive candles as placecards

If you use the tealights does it matter if youuse the clear based ones or the metal based ones?

Does anyone know how long the metal onse from Ikea last?
