Does anyone HATE their job?

I do. I've been working as a Legal Secretary/Paralegal for just about 10 years now and I HATE it. It actually brings out the worst in me. I sometimes cry in my car during my lunch hour. Unfortunately, I have no other experience or college and am getting married this June and also turning 30 this May!! What's a girl to do?? I absolutely, love working w/children (I worked at a daycare center right out of highschool), but cannot afford to live on their salary. Even if I could at least work in a school doing anything. I'd even like to work in HR in any field, but no luck w/that either. I'm new to L.I. and I don't understand how people live and work out here. It's impossible to do it w/out killing yourself. Everyone out here seems to want all of your money, but the jobs don't want to pay! It also doesn't help that my friends and family do not live on L.I., so it just adds to my depression as I sometimes feel lonely Fortunately, my FH's family and friends live on L.I., so at least one of us is happy

in fact, i work in HR and am going into teaching, so you can have my job when I leave Maybe you'll like it better than I do!

Seriously, though, it is not worth crying everyday. You spend 40+ hours a week at work, so you should be at least ok with it, if not happy. After your wedding, maybe you should seriously consider something else.

I know exactly how you feel. I was actually just sitting here yelling at myself to do some work. I HATE what I do. I am a HR Manager and I am about to get my Masters degree in HR yet I have decided that I despise the field. It is so not what I want to do and I feel so backed into a corner. I cry everyday on my way to work and sit at my desk wanting to run away forever from this office. Unfortunatly I have stock options that I can't walk away from and I am stuck at my company for a little while longer. I have always been one who had amazing work ethic and never sat on the job. I find myslef lately not working more than working. I play on the internet, etc. It is so not me and I hate that I have become this lazy worker. I just have no desire to do any of the work on my desk.

I keep hoping that DH will give in to leaving NY so we can afford to live on just his salary and me working P/T and being a mom.

That's so weird, I thought I wanted to work in HR, I guess I should rethink that

I work in a Nursing Home and I hate it! There is nothing worse than hearing about how people die almost everyday, it gets very depressing. I have a BS in Psychology, not ready to go on for more schooling because I don't know what I want. UGH! Life is too tough.

I despise my job but thats prob cause i work with some family members. Im finishing up school in may so hopefully on to something new. Dont feel alone, because there are plenty of people out there that hate their jobs as well. Now you say you hate your job, is it the actual field you are in or is it the company you are working for????

Yes I HATE my job. I have for a long time but there is nothing else out there right now. I have been looking for a long time plus I don't really want to do this any more. I have strong work ethic & I def do not work to the best of my ability. I just don't care anymore. You get no thanks for working hard. SO here I am typing away on LIW at 4.20 pm in the afternoon.

Thanks for your input. My absolute passion and dream job was to be a teacher. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to go to college to pursue that career and now that I'm turning 30 in 2 months, seems a bit tough to have to start from scratch. I'm a people person, so i like to interact and help others. Working w/lawyers on frivolous lawsuits makes me sick...it's such a dishonest system and it amazes me how people get compensated for little or no injuries. This is why I thought I could maybe get into HR, but now I am feeling doubtful from reading these responses. I'll do anything but have to type and process legal documents all day loooong. I too find myself making mistakes and slacking off big time. I can't seem to motivate myself to get 'with it'. I have, however, found a new hobby....PLAYING LOTTERY!! someone has to win, right? Sometimes, I wish I was a little girl all over again and have my mommy take care of me....boy would I do things different now!

Have any of you ever used a career counselor? Was s/he located at a college or was s/he independant? Was it helpful?

Fortunately, I plan on leaving here real soon! Im not doing what I want to do, I am miserable most days here at work, and I only took this job to make more $$. I am currently taking classes for my masters, so there is a light far far at the end of the tunnel.

I dont know how much longer I have to stay here, hopefully it wont be too long

I would say think about what you want to do exactly...A lot of jobs you DON'T need any college...I was in a similiar situation myself:

I went to a private college for Fashion Design, thought it was what I wanted to do. After 2.5 years in the industry, I finally put my pride behind me and quit. I used to come home every day and cry and *****.
I knew it wasnt just the company bc I had tried out 3/4 different places, and found out it was all the same!!
So just last month I started in a new industry/new job..and I LOVE IT!!
Just do what you enjoy and don't let anyone interfere :)

Some days I feel like this too, mostly because of my boss. She is a nasty, control freak. I have also been with my job for 10 years. I only got a certificate from college and if I tried to apply to my job now, I wouldn't get it. I would have had to graduate with 4 years of college and have some experience with which I did not go to school for. I have gone to classes through the years at my job and just doing it everyday, I have learned.
I am scared that if something happened with my job, I wouldn't be able to go into the same field as I don't have a degree.
I think once my boss reitres (cross your fingers for the end of this year!) I will feel less stressed going to work and will not have a knot in my stomach knowing that I have to have that 'right' answer at any time.
