Help!!!! My 13 month old has his first fever and I'm freaking out!!!!!!!

It's 102.5 I've been giving him Tylenol but it barely brings it down. And then it goes back up again. Tell me this is normal I'm losing it!!!!

Wow, his first fever at over a year old? That is really good! Don't freak out, if you are worried call the Dr. I would say its normal but since he never had a fever before I would make a call.

Re: Help!!!! My 13 month old has his first fever and I'm freaking out!!!!!!!

I've called the DR and she just tells me to use the tylenol and lukewarm baths and lots of fluids. But he won't drink!!!! When he gets up from his nap I'm going to try to give him pedialite with a medicine dropper. God, I'm worried.

Re: Help!!!! My 13 month old has his first fever and I'm freaking out!!!!!!!

i found that motrin not tylenol worked MUCH better on my 2 girls. they are fever runners everytime they get sick they run a high fever. give you doc a call and see if you can try that. also cool baths lots of liquids.

Try not to worry, if the Dr. said to just keep w/ the tylenol and warm baths - it'll break - stay calm. Just keep offering fluids.

eta: I agree with the motrin - it always worked on my son as well.

Re: Help!!!! My 13 month old has his first fever and I'm freaking out!!!!!!!

My kids run fevers of 104, I give them motrin and piggy back it with tylenol. So, give tylenol, fourhrs later give motrin and then 2 hrs after that give the dose of tylenol. It usully brings the fever down. Fevers are really scary, I still hate them after 6 years of dealing with them. Dn't submerge him in a cold bath that makes the temp rise, try to just blot his head with a moist towel. 102 is not that high, but it should go down a little bit 1 r after a does of tylenol is given. Make sure his neck is not stiff, but otherwise, I bet he'll be better within 48 hrs.

Re: Help!!!! My 13 month old has his first fever and I'm freaking out!!!!!!!

Well it's day 3 and we still have a fever. This morning (while on Tylenol) his fever was down to 100.6 normally that would make me feel good. However same thing happened yesterday morning at 8am his temp was 100 by 11am it was 102. I'm just worried and I want this temp to go away already!!!!!

Re: Help!!!! My 13 month old has his first fever and I'm freaking out!!!!!!!

You know I was just thinking - if its day 3 of his fever - I would take him in to the Dr. and let them check him out. I'm sure everything is fine - but since you mentioned its been 2 full days and now its the 3rd day of a fever I would bring him in to be sure.

Re: Help!!!! My 13 month old has his first fever and I'm freaking out!!!!!!!

The Dr say's to just let the fever break on it's own but I was wondering how many days of fever is normal. Hopefully he won't go over 101 today so than I'll know he is at least getting better. But I was curious about that too. Three days seems like a long time to have a fever. If it's not gone by tomorrow I'm taking him in because the Drs office is closed over the weekend so I want him in before the weekend.

Re: Help!!!! My 13 month old has his first fever and I'm freaking out!!!!!!!

Well I checked his temp again at 10 and it was 100.2 I still gave him the tylenol cause the Dr said to every 4 hours at least today. He stll won't drink though. I was happy because he actually finished his morning bottle (which he hasen't done in days) but he only drank 1 of the 7ozs for his before nap bottle. So I've still been chasing him around all day giving him medicine droppers full of pedialite. And his diapers are filling up so he can't be that dehydrated... right? I just hope his fever stays down and goes away today. It's been a rough few days for both of us.

Re: Help!!!! My 13 month old has his first fever and I'm freaking out!!!!!!!

Well, he's been dosed up on tylenol all day every 4 hours on the hour and his fever is up again!!! Thank God it's not as high as yesterday but it's still 101.8 and I'm still freaking out. I don't know if I'm over reacting (new Mom syndrome) or if there is a real concern. I'm just wooried it's been 3 days of having a fever. And as an adult I've never had a fever for more than a day.
