UPDATE: VENT Repost from Acrylics vs. Natural Nails

Ok Girls, I did it! I wen't last night and had my acrylic's taken off Yay! My nails were pretty long underneath so my intention was to try and salvage as much of the length as I could. So, I walked into a local salon around my house which only had 2 clients there (it was about 6:15pm so they were not busy). I tell the girl that I want my nails SOAKED off and a manicure done, and then maybe put a little of that new UV Gel stuff that they have to make them a little harder. What does this moron do, she proceeds to rip my nails off using a cuticle cutter all the while talking Korean to her co-worker (I hate when they do that - it makes me feel like they are talking about me and besides it is totally rude) She even stabbed me just underneath my fingernail with it. She could see that I was getting upset and needless to say there was no saving my nails after that, when she was done she looked at me and said 'I could not save your real nails, they are to thin, I cut short now! I turned to her and said - Well of course not because you did not soak them like I asked you tore them off, I obviously have no choice now!

She cut them short, filed them a little, buffed them and applied a little UV Gel and then charged me $15 dollars even though she didn't even bother to give me a manicure. She said 'Soaking takes too long , 1 hour'
I said Lady I have had nails on for 10 years, I know how long it takes, If I wanted them ripped off I would have done it myself instead of going to a salon and paying for it! and I left.

P.S. There was no way I was going to tip this idiot either! UGH

Re: UPDATE: VENT Repost from Acrylics vs. Natural Nails

Wan't that a Seinfeld episode with them speaking in korean and making fun of Elaine.

Sorry you had to deal with that. THey did the same thing to me....and my nails were in REALLY BAD SHAPE!!!

It took 6 months to get the dips and grooves grown out.

You should have stopped her before she went any further!

I sure do and know its hard to communicate because their English is not very good but you have to express what you want somehow.

Re: UPDATE: VENT Repost from Acrylics vs. Natural Nails

sorry to hear that! sometimes the Korean nail places are awesome, and other times you wonder how they stay in business!

I also used hate when they have an entire conversation in Korean while giving me a manicure. The places I go to now don't ever do that.

Really! I would have walked away and not endured that pain!

I go to a place in Nesconset for my pedicures and am going to start getting manicures also. They are very nice and I've never had a problem with them.

Sorry about your bad experience

Re: UPDATE: VENT Repost from Acrylics vs. Natural Nails

It sounds like they were very rude! However, for me, I would never be able to keep any length on a nail that had acrylic removed. I'd have to wait for my nail to grow again. The acrylic makes it so weak. Still, some of these places have such rude people. What bothers me is when they don't take the time to learn basic words that I would use to explain what I want. I've been to places where the girl needed a translator when i said 'cut them shorter' or 'make them square.'

I'm not saying that everyone must speak English all the time but a manicurist should learn some basic phrases!
