NWR: My FH was a bone marrow donor one year ago and yesterday he got...

A card from the recipient! I wont write exactly what the card says but he said,' you're my hero, I feel 20 years younger, I have NO measurable disease at this time, I surely would have died without you. Etc!!!' I almost cried reading it!! It was hard for FH last year beforehand. He had to make frequent trips into the city, give himself 3 shots a day of something and had horrible side effects, but he did it and IT WORKED! The man is alive!!

They will get to meet in June! I cant wait! Were all so happy!

thanks! We cant wait to meet him. All we know is its a man, we dont know anything else. They are only allowed to talk through cards and the cards have to go through the registry first. Its going to be so exciting!

Thats a great story with a great ending. My DH did the same for someone but they didn't make it and he found out a year later. It is sad but at least he did everything he could have for the person.

My DH was too - about 7 months before our wedding and the recipient didn't make it.

I'm so glad to hear that this person's life was saved! It was so great of your FH to donate

It is an amazing gift to give. I am sure meeting the recipient of the bone marrow will be an amazing experience. This is why I am a blood donor. Unfortunately I pierced my navel last summer and I have to wait at least a year before I can donate again.
