Thanks, FH is in the fire department (ladder 112 in Bushwick Brooklyn) When they join the department I believe they are automatically put into the registry. He was a match for a little girl a while ago, but then they found a better match. When they called him about this man he was totally willing to go through with it. I read the letter FH plans to send back to him and it is so incredibly sweet! I can not wait to meet him! They are supposed to be able to meet in June.

Your FI is truly amazing!! I have always wanted to be a bone marrow donor, and after reading this, I have started to research how do become one.

Hollie, that is GREAT news!

I can tell you that they don't do it like they used to. If you remember they used to take marrow from your hip etc (very painful)?

Well he had many physicals and tests at Sloan Kettering beforehand. Then for a few days he had to get 3 shots a day. Then they work it like a blood transfusion? I cant remember

but I think it was a 2 day process where he would sit in a chair and they would take blood from one arm and put it back in another. He is so happy that he did it! It would be great if they could find a match for you too

You have eased my fears! I have to call the blood center today and schedule an appointment. I think what your FI did is amazing and it just goes to show what kind of person he is.
