Teachers: What are your typical hours?

On a normal day.

And then when you get home, do you work on lesson plans every day? Or just a few days a week?

TIA

Re: Teachers: What are your typical hours?

My class hours are 8:40-3:30 however I usually get to work at 7:30 and leave around 5-5:30...today I left early. I do my lesson planning every Wednesday for the following week. I also prefer going to work early rather than taking work home.

Re: Teachers: What are your typical hours?

I get to work at 8am, school starts at 8:30am. School ends at 3pm, but I teach an after school program until 5pm. I do lesson planning during my preps. I hate to take my plan book home (but during my first year, I did all of my planning on the weekend). I plan for the entire week rather than day by day.

Re: Teachers: What are your typical hours?

I get to work by 7:15 and leave at 3 (when the school day ends).

I am a coach now so I find that I don't have to do so much at home. The time before school usually takes care of it. If I was still in the classroom I would probably have more to do at home. I used to stay after on Fridays to plan for the next week, and when needed I would also do work on Sunday mornings.

I found that I did a lot more at home during my first couple years. Some days I'd do work for several hours. But I kept all my lesson plans so I'd just do some 'tweaking' and that saved time. Writing lessons was a very painstaking process when I first began.

Re: Teachers: What are your typical hours?

my hours ar 8:30-3:30- i leave right away because i tutor after school. i pretty much plan as the week goes on.. I know by know what I have to do and cover so I 'wing it'- i work better under pressure!!!

ETA- that school doesnt start until 9:15 and ends at 3:15. Since we dont have a contract either, we have to leave at exactly the time we are supposed to!

Re: Teachers: What are your typical hours?

The school hours are 7:50 to 2:30. I get there at 6:30 and leave around 3 (in the past I used to moderate the concert band and teach after school class once-twice a week, so then it was later).

I have three preps (because I teach high school) and at this point--5 yrs. later in this school--I know all of them like the back of my hand, so I usually just mentally go over what I'm doing for the week, write that in the book the week before, and go from there. Most times the plan is flexible because I never know where I'm going to end up.

Re: Teachers: What are your typical hours?

Since we have no contract - we're working to the contract....8:13 - 3:08
I usuually get to school at 7:45
I do a lot of grading at home, and planning during my preps.
2 days of the week, I stay until 6:30 to help out with the set building of the school plays

Re: Teachers: What are your typical hours?

I'm a preschool teacher....we have to be there at 9am and go home at 2pm. I like to get there around 8:30-8:40 to do bulletin boards or get manipulatives from our resource room for free time. I also stay a little later to talk to other teachers, and lesson plans are pretty free...as long as we have a basic daily schedule.

Re: Teachers: What are your typical hours?

I get to school around 7:30, school starts at 8:00 and ends at 2:30, but we have to stay until 3:15, I usually leave about 3:30-4:00. We get 1/2 hour planning time 4x a week, and 1 hour once a week. I try to get all of my planning done in school, and I usually grade papers at home, although ever since I got engaged in Dec, I have been a BIG slacker, I am way behind in everything.....

Re: Teachers: What are your typical hours?

school hours are 8:20-2:50. i like to get there at 7:40 but when i drive iwth someone, i always get there later. most of the time, i leave by 3:10 just so i can avoid traffic b/c i have a commute. i am trying hard to plan during my preps but otherwise, it is every night and one weekend day. i have gifted kids, so they require a looooot more than i can sometimes give! hopefully, next year, i will use my time better. i will get a mini copy machine so i can make one copy, drop it off for the aides and use my preps for planning. we'll see.plus...big thing...i will keep my lessons and plan books forever b/c you never know where you'll be in 10 years and anything to make life easier!

Re: Teachers: What are your typical hours?

im middle school and hours are from 7:50 - 2:35.

i get there around 7:20 and leave right after to tutor. i plan one day a week for the week ahead (we have to). if i didnt tutor, id stay after until 3:30 or so and just tie up loose ends and 'expand' on my lessons. my life is very busy right now so i dont.

anyhow, nothing beats a teachers hours!

Re: Teachers: What are your typical hours?

OK I don't know why my school day seems longer than most grrrrrrrrr

But our sign in time is 7:50 and the day ends at 2:55 sign out is 3:05. I am usually in at 7:30 the latest and I usually do not leave before 3:30 since I am always out talking and I share my room I do a lot of planning at home! My first 2-3 years I would say 3-4 days a week planning (we didn't have a text or a curriculum it was a big old mess) and then grading on Sunday. Now maybe once a week!

But I have also in 9 years had 7 different curriculum teaching the same 'class'

Jenn just know that if you are organized and have a good system to keep track of the things you plan and create the work load will lighten a little bit more and more every year.
