Baby shower questions

1 - Is yours going to be a surprise?

2 - What is the typical baby shower like for you - in a restaurant, a hall, in a home, is it co-ed, alot of people, etc?? Not that I've never been to any, but I know my family is weird and we usually do big parties in a KoC or something like that, and they are always co-ed.

3 - What do you DO at a baby shower - besides open presents?

My poor DH is getting stuck doing all the work for mine (again!) because my Mom lives in FL and he doesn't have a clue what to do and neither do I. I don't care if it's not a surprise and I really even feel weird about having yet another party 'for us' so soon after the wedding.

I need advice to tell him what he should do. He was asking me if I wanted a brunch of all women, or a co-ed Sat. night party - and I have no idea what to do. I don't need to have a big fuss made over this but at the same time we could definitely use anything and everything we would get at a shower.

Any suggestions??

Re: Baby shower questions

Mine was not a surprise. This was my choice. I was really surprised for my bridal shower and felt very silly so I wanted to feel more relaxed about this.
We had a brunch at a restuarant and there were about 40 female guests. We were originally going to invite the guys, but when we saw how many people we were going to invite (females) we decided to limit it.
DH was there the whole time. I wanted him to be there because I felt like this was really a celebration for him too. He was happy I wanted him to come and he really enjoyed being there.
We didnt do anything but open up presents, hang out and eat. I am not a big fan of shower games but thats jmo.
Good luck with your planning!!!!

Re: Baby shower questions

My sister's shower was in a restaurant that had a party room. There were about 40 women. It was an afternoon affair from 12 - 4pm. It was a surprise. (I have been to showers that were not a surprise).

We played lots of games. I like games because it makes the time go by quicker. It really depends on your crowd. We played - Guess the size of mom's belly, Word Scramble, Dirty Diaper, Guess the baby food, Bingo and the safety pin game.

Re: Baby shower questions

My shower is MOST likely not going to be a SURPRISE
bc my sister and mother will be coming in from SC,
and my sister will be bring 2 kiddes with her, so I am sure when she is doing shower preperations I will be babysitting the peanuts.

I told her not to bother trying to make it a surprise.
NOT sure where it will be depeding on how many people there are bc DH family is really big and this is the first grandchild for his parents.

but usually in a restaurent or rent out a room or in a home.

If you are having it small enough that everyone can fit in someone home, it is really nice, I actually enjoy these the best.
Or in the summer on a porch or back yard is really nice, more personal and intimate.

Mine will be to big for this.
I am sure if DH calls some girlfriends of yours they will be willing to help,
Baby shower are so much more fun I THINK then bridal showers!!

The co-ed thing is a cool idea,
but then I would make it into something at home, maybe a bbq.
I Know my DH would not enjoy a typical baby shower at a restaurent,
he rather something more laid back.

but to each his own.
best of luck I am sure anything he does will be great

Re: Baby shower questions

Mine was not a surprise though there was a huge surprise that was kept from me but it was not a surprise. I wanted it that way and honestly enjoyed it much more this way!!!

It as in a restaurant and I think there was around 30 people there, just the people I wanted there. There was only 1 uninvited guest there But none of my Mom's friends, MIL's friends or DH's guys girlfriends it was just the people that I was close to and I was estatic! It was in a restaurant. We sat around and BS and opened gifts! I had a good time

Re: Baby shower questions

Mine was not a suprise. It was not co-ed but DH came during the last 1/2 hour or so of the party and ate and took pics with me. He was really only there to load up all of the gifts!! lol

Most people have it at a restaurant but mine was at my moms house. She catered in food and had a cake, lots of balloons, and gave out favors.
Most showers I have been to had between 30-60 woman.

Re: Baby shower questions

Oh I forgot to answer questions #3. Besides opening gifts there are silly games you can play
We did one that had something to do with baby names, and another one I cant remember.
We gave out prizes ( Body lotion & matching sprays) and there was even a big baby quilt that got passed around for everyone to sign.
HTH

This one I think I can answer. Most baby showers I've been are actually in the 8th month.

Mine will be in my 7th month because of timing with being back in NY and then my MIL being in CO but I also think most are late 7th early 8th month unless timing is an issue.

Re: Baby shower questions

My shower is supposted to be a surprise, but I think I may know when it is.

To tell you the truth, I've only been to one baby shower in my life, so I don't know much about them either!

I know that my DH will be there and the godfather is going to be there, plus one other guy, who is my DH's cousin. But there only there to eat and pack up the stuff!!

I told my mother that I wanted it to be at her house because I like the fact of being comfortable and in a familiar home. She actually wanted to do it when I got married (North Ritz) and I told her she was crazy.

I can just see it now....me carrying in my laundry with sweats on and.....SURPISE!!!
