I have a tuxedo/suit dilemma - i need 05er input! (it's long, but I'm stressing)

So, FH and I are really excited about his suit- it's a sort of olive green/brownish color. We didn't want black for an outdoor summer wedding - and this is a perfect blend of formal but summery and different.

For the groomsmen - Heres the issue. FH says they all have suits that are tan, olive or brown. Clearly, none of them will match if we let them wear their own suits. Please keep in mind - I am NOT a compulsive person with matching, I don't feel the need to coordinate every aspect of the wedding. We are making great efforts to have this wedding be NOT black-tie, NOT what you would expect from a saturday night wedding...but I am stuck on this one. I don't care about what I 'should' do (which is make them all rent matching tuxedos) because I am trying to be practical and open minded. I am totally torn.

If all the girls are in matching dreses, do you think it will look 'off' to have the guys in coordinating (all the same tone, but not matching) suits?

I'm so confused at this point.

Part 2: If I was to 'make' them match - do you think it would look bad to have FH in Green, and his groomsmen in black? Or, qould it look better to have them all in olive colored suit like him?

I would look into renting olive colored suits....I am just stuck on making sure everyone can quickly identify who you asked to be in your bridal party. After all you asked these people because they are important people in your lives....I want to make sure everyone else know it too.

IMHO - I totally agree -i think it would look nicer if everyone matched - I also think you will be happier with that look in pictures

i would let your fh keep the olive green suit (i love that idea for a nice outdoor summer wedding ). and then have the guys in the bp rent suits of your color choice, i wouldnt put them in tuxedos or black though. i think tan suits for the guys would look really nice.

Re: I have a tuxedo/suit dilemma - i need 05er input! (it's long, but I'm stressing)

I don't think you should have the groomsmen in black - expecially Tuxedos - if your FH is wearing an olive colored suit......... I do agree that the groomsmen should match.....and all of those shades of olive, brown, tan etc.......I don't think it's going to look right. -
What are the girls wearing ? Is the wedding a more casual outdoor affair ? Could the groomsmen possibly wear khaki colored dress pants, white shirt and tie
To be quite honest, they can all buy themselves a new suit for the price of renting a tux.........you can always go down that road.

I also think they should match and also that black wouldn't look right with your FI being in olive. I would put them in olive or tan. Do they have to be in suits? What about nice khaki pants and white button down shirts & matching ties.

Re: I have a tuxedo/suit dilemma - i need 05er input! (it's long, but I'm stressing)

Since your girls are all wearing something matching, I would at least opt to have coordinating clothing for the men. If you ask the men to rent a particular suit, I don't think that would be asking too much of them, or you could even do a 'chose one from any of these choices.' What do you think? Are you leaning towards one solution or the other?

My brother was in a wedding where the groom and all the groomsmen bought matching suits and all the groomsmen loved it!

Re: I have a tuxedo/suit dilemma - i need 05er input! (it's long, but I'm stressing)

you guys are great.

I agree that the black would not look right, and that matching is probably the way to go...

I know that one of the groomsmen really wants to buy a suit (well, his wife wants him to buy a suit) for the wedding, but they were not expecting olive green (everyone assumes black is th only color for men!) so, I think we threw them with that, but they can deal with renting.

Now I just have to find a Mens Warehouse near them!

thanks ladies...

I would ask them to get suits in a tan color which is nice for summer. Your FH can be in Olive and that would work. Renting suits can be a nightmare. I don't know too many places that rent suits.

I agree w/Blu-ize

I was at Syms over the weekend and they have VERY nice designer suits for $200 or less.

YES! Whatr is this? If they can rent tuxes, why can't they rent suits? I don't get it. So basically, if I make them get a suit that is not a tux and not black, it has to be purchased. ugh. This is not going to be fun to explain to FH.

Hi... how are you? long time no FM. I hope you have been having great success planning! Ok, so for the suits. I have for the Jos. A. Banks (there is one by Roosevelt field) has great suits to buy and the great part is that on May 24th, they are having a special half price sale, all suits, ALL, are 1/2 off. We found a great one that is usually $500 and we are getting the gm to buy it for $250, we consulted them and they all agreed that rather than renting a suit for $150, they'd pay the extra money and buy it so they can have it for good.
Knowing that your wedding is so close to the date of the sale, they said that they would order the suits in advance and then just ring the suits up on the day of the sale to get the discount. They were great there and the suits are finely made. If you have questions, you can FM me. Good luck!

Hey! How are you?! i hope YOUR planning is coming along!

This is such great info. Thank You. I do agree that it makes sense to purchase a suit for only a little bit more...

now off to hunting for suits. Ah!!

No problem... but like I said the sale at Jos. A. Banks is a one day only thing. I would definitely take a look there, they have great suits (good quality) and the staff is so helpful!
Good luck! I feel your pain!
