Re: For your shower do you like people to...

Of course it was great to get so many things off my registry but the gifts that really meant the most were the personal ones (my grandmother putting together stuff from my mom's wedding, my sister giving me a Coach bag filled with stuff for the honeymoon...) I think a combination is best. When I attend weddings, I usually stick to the registry for shower and try to personalize the wedding gift or if I am really close to the couple, I'll ditch the registry for all gifts.

i would like both. its nice to get what you want, but its also nice when people get you something 'from them'.

Yes, I agree... and was fortunate enough to get a mix of both at my shower

Re: For your shower do you like people to...

I registered for too many things and nearly everything I received was off the registry.

If I knew then...I would have registered for fewer items and maybe would have received more creative gifts than what I picked for myself.

Re: For your shower do you like people to...

For the most part everyone stuck to my registry but I did receive a few personal gifts that I really liked! My one friend got us a plate with our names and wedding date painted on it and a bride and groom. It matches perfectly with our kitchen.

Re: For your shower do you like people to...

both. honestly, i think it gets a bit boring to open towel after plate after towel. It's great to get that stuff, cause we want it, but I always have gotten my girlfriends beautiful lingerie/robes/etc...for their showers, and they reciprocated with some gorgeous stuff.

I think the point of the shower is to shower the bride with gits. Not just for the home, but for her specifically, as the bride.

Re: For your shower do you like people to...

I think a nice, personal gift for the bride is always nice...but otherwise, I'd prefer to receive from the registry. As Bunnymonkey mentioned...I loved the pretty nighties I received (and I'm sure FH will like those more than the usual flannel!)...but I also received a few bowls and platters that are not our taste. AND they didn't include gift receipts, so all I can do is exchange and get the lowest price for those items.

Re: For your shower do you like people to...

Both actually, but to a degree. For most of my friend's showers, I have tried to combine a few things off their registry with some personal things as well and put it all in a big basket or box. I have also gotten close friends something unique that they couldn't necessarily find on their own. I once got a friend a beautiful platter handcarved out of wood from a store in Vermont that I had visited. She later told me that she uses it all the time. So a personal touch is always nice.

Re: For your shower do you like people to...

Well I would prefer that peopel stick to the registry but if they don't its ok as long as they provide me with a gift receipt. I got so many things at our engagement party that I didn't need or want & would be a waste to have that I had to try & figure out where to return them to...it took me forever a year later I finally got rid of 2 things that I couldn't find out where to return them to--it was a big pain. I like the coach bag idea w/ the stuff for honeymoons--the practical gifts I would like but some of the things I could do without!!!

Re: For your shower do you like people to...

Both actually. Personalized gifts show me that the person who bought it really knows me . I know my BMs are buying a lot of stuff that is not on my registry.

Re: For your shower do you like people to...

for me, registry.

I took the time to really figure out what I want, so I would rather get something I know I want. Also, people tend to have tastes that don't always match with mine...

Re: For your shower do you like people to...

Thanks everyone!!!! Just to clarify, b/c I did a really crappy job of explaining
I was talking more about the stuff that is actually personalized. Like a 'just married' tankini for the hm, or a ' Soon to be xxx' hoodie, a throw with both of their names and weddding date, etc.
