Need advice on how to sell a car

We've found a buyer for our car, but are a little uncertain about next steps. Does anyone know what the rules are in terms of what kind of documentation is needed? I know we have to sign over the title but, other than that, do we need to have a contract, etc.? Thanks so much!

Don't need a contract, I have always drafted up a bill of sale that includes the year, make and model of the car, VIN, amount the car is being sold for - and I have always made sure that there is some blurb that says the vehicle is being sold 'as is'. Have the buyer sign it, give him a copy - keep the original.
