The real story about my shower...(Long Vent)

Yes it was great....my mother did a wonderful job of preparing everything for me...you saw a bunch of pictures...but there is more to it behind all those smiles you saw...

#1 My MIL

She came to the shower with people that were invited but never RSVPed AND they brought their two kids. Once these kids were in the house...their mother's never watched them. Food was stuck to my mother's carpet, they ate cake in the living room...where nobody was and also decided to play the piano with the cake balanced on top of it..leaving all the keys sticky and dirty. Plus they took a soccer ball out and made my mother's front lawn a soccer field and my father's brand new Lexus the goal.

My MIL showed her a$$ to my friend to prove to her that she got stretch marks from pregnancy. Classy.

She also started preaching to my mother and her cousin about the bible when she overheard them talking about psychics.

Now all of you are going to die when you hear this...My mother walked upstairs past her room to put my gifts away and found my MIL in her BEDROOM!!! My mother was like...'Can I help you with something?' and she just walked out of the room like it was no big deal.

#2 My MOH.
My MOH flew from AZ for the shower to surprise me. When she got there, she told my mom that HER mother said she should be the one to sit next to me and write all the gifts down because she was the MOH. My mom was like whatever . So she does just that. When I opened up my MOH's mom's gift to me, she HAD to call her on the phone and I HAD to speak with her at that moment. Then when I opened all the gifts she runs and gets her gift. I opened it and it was a bonnet, a bible and a baby rosary...all things that a godmother would buy. She is NOT the godmother though.

Later on my mother says something about my friend Rachel being the godmother and all of a sudden my MOH's face drops.

She then proceeded to be anti-social for the rest of the night. I hate when you have a friend that you feel you have to babysit because they're not mature or social enough to function around other people. When I talked to my friend Rachel, she would give the nastiest looks and sit by herself with a 'poor me' look on her face. When she left the next day she cried hysterically and I was like...bye.....have a nice flight...no tears at all.

Pheww! So that's what happened at my shower that I needed to vent to all of you girls.

I've heard that a MIL gets worse when their grandchild is born....I can't imagine what I'm in for...

Re: The real story about my shower...(Long Vent)

OMG I am SOOOO sorry you had to go through that during your baby shower!!!!!

I know EXACTLY how it feels as my baby shower was drama filled and left me so anxious and upset instead of happy and carefree that I thought I was going to go into labor right then and there!!!
People are selfish and morons!!! Why can't people EVER put their own feelings aside for ONE DAY to let someone else be happy and enjoy this special time?!?!?

Re: The real story about my shower...(Long Vent)

I am so sorry that you had to got hrought that...

But in the MIL front the only way you are going to stop her is to put her in her place from the beginning.. I love my MIL to death she is my mother and she treats me like one of her own children but when my daughter was born she tried to give her two cents worth( aand she strill does) I looked at her and said thank you for the advice but i am going to try it this way and being the babies mother i am the one who is with her the most.. and set some ground rules.. i live an hour away and they are not aloud to just 'drop in' they can come over anytime they like but i really have to know.. and they ar eactually ok with it...my mIL is just obsessed with the babys face being messy WHILE SHE IS EATING!!!

so good luck and again i am so sorry about your MIL and your friend.. did she really think she was going to be the godmother when she lives so far away,,?

Re: The real story about my shower...(Long Vent)

Your MIL sounds like a real class act....honestly you can keep her more under control by not asking her for her opinions but rather stating facts. I did this throughout my entire wedding and now with Molly. I rarely ask certain people questions. Instead I state our decisions as plain fact...giving no room for them to give me any thoughts.
Sorry that your MOH did all of those things as well. I am guessing you do not feel as close to her anymore but I bet her mother told her that traditionally the MOH is the first child's godparent and she assumed...which she should NOT have done.

I agree with Michele. Don't give her any room to interject her opinions, because your baby only has ONE mother who will determine what is best for him/her and that's YOU!

I'm so sorry these ladies acted like complete a$$es (literally and figuratively ). How presumptious for your MOH to think she would be the Godmother. And how akward of her to make you get on the phone at your shower with her mother?!? What is that about?? It reminds me of my cousin who 'trailed' me into the bathroom and handed me the phone under the stall wall to speak to her mother at my shower The connection kept breaking off and I was trying to be polite and hold back the pee. I don't know what some people are thinking, I swear

I hope the rest of the day was good for you and that you got alot of baby goodies
