Re: Dont know where to start?
well, look in magazines. Get an idea of what you want and start going to some places. Its not that overwhelming. Start with your local wedding salon.

Re: Dont know where to start?
You can start by looking in magazines & online to see what styles you like...Then I would take the yellow pages out & start calling bridal salons in your area to make appointments to see what they have....

Re: Dont know where to start?
Start looking in magazines.. I noticed your date is in 2008... I would hold off for awhile before you actually start shopping, your taste can changr a lot in 3 years. Personally, I wouldn't go more than a year and a half before your date.

Re: Dont know where to start?
i found theknot.com to be helpful. Lots of LI brides suggested I look there. You can pick what style, designer, etc. Then there links to their site to look at other dresses.I haven't found 'the one' yet, but I now have an idea what I'm looking for

Re: Dont know where to start?
I would look on line and in books see what kind of style you look go to there web site and see where its carried - then just call that salon to make sure that they have a sample -

Re: Dont know where to start?
I started looking online. Just pick a few designers and see what kind of neckline and skirt styles you like. What kind of material you like and its appropriateness for your time of year. Your tastes may change but if you see the one get it b4 it gets discontinued and it's no longer available.

Re: Dont know where to start?
I would say magazines and on the dress threads on this board and theknot.com also just type in a designer and look for websites that way.

Re: Dont know where to start?
Start looking in magazines. Then look online for the stores that have the dresses you liked in the magazines.

Re: Dont know where to start?
The Knot has a magazine that is pretty great. The search is much easier if you can narrow it down by style or by designer. I went to the salon knowing that I wanted an a-line gown with a wrap waist. I showed the ladies a Maggie Sottero that I liked and they pulled all of them for me. I bought the third dress I tried on

Re: Dont know where to start?
Websites and magazines are great to get and idea of the type/styles you are looking for however, when you do go shopping don't rule out any dresses the sales associates suggest - my dress is totally different than the dresses i liked online and in magazines and i love it!!!Go to Estelle's dressy dresses - I went just to look and they were so nice!!! And you can try on as many dresses as you like and they have tons of dresses!! It's great to just get an idea of what you like - and you don't have to have someone dress you!!

I looked in magazines and the knot, but honestly, had no idea what I liked until I started trying stuff on!

Re: Dont know where to start?
I would start looking in magazines and start making a portfolio of styles that you really like. This way you don't have to try on hundreds of dresses and it will make the process easier for you. However, The true test will be when you go and try them on.Welcome New Vendors
