WARNING! Princess cut E rings

I have had my e ring for a little over a year, and the other day while in the car with my FI I was looking at it. I held it up and was able to MOVE my center stone (princess cut). It was wiggley and giggley all over. I put it away and we took it to the jeweler the next day. He said that becuase the square stone only has four prongs they tend to get loose. He fixed it on the spot. He said to check it every few months to see if it is held tightly in the prongs!
I just wanted to warn anyone with a square stone.....check you ring!!

Re: WARNING! Princess cut E rings

I have a 4-prong E ring but it's not a princess cut, it's a round stone. Now I'm wondering if it's only with the princess cut or any ring with 4-prongs!?

Re: WARNING! Princess cut E rings

my princess has corner prongs for extra safety - ask your jeweler about 'em!

Re: WARNING! Princess cut E rings

I don't buy it. A stone that is set properly should not come loose that often. It's good to check it, but there are jewelers and diamond setters.

exactly what I was thinking...

If it's not COMPLETELY inconvienient, I would go into Manhattan. There are people in the diamond district and on Bowery that make their living off JUST setting stones...thats where mine was done.

Re: WARNING! Princess cut E rings

Yes, I know this happens because Fi's sister is a jeweler. She said every once in a while shake the ring and you will hear it if it's loose. She told me before my wedding to come in and get it tightened while I get it cleaned....yes we have to be careful!

I still LOVE my e-ring though!!!

I also have a radiant cut and the prongs are on the corner (which I was against as you can't see the beauty of the stone) but the jewler who set it said the corner prongs were more secure BUT she also said that I should come in and get the prongs looked at everry 6 months (free of charge). Since I work 2 blocks from the diamond district I will take her up on that offer!! Thanks for the heads up!!
