Re: What's a GOOD place to eat in Soho or Union Square area??

Union Square area there's America which is pretty good and pretyt reasonable - nothing fancy, but it's HUGE. There's also a Heartland Brewery. And Republic, which is sort of a pan-Asian noodle bar. There's a place, I think it's called CHango, on Park Ave South that does really good Mexican.

I love Republic, but only if I can sit outside, inside was too dark and loud for me. It is really inexpensive.

I love Republic, but the atmosphere is a little lacking. How about Lemon bar? I used to work across the street. Also, on Irving Place, Sal Anthony's is really yummy.

Park Avalon in Union Square is yummy/candlelit - although a bit crowded sometimes ...

sorry! lemon bar is on Park Avenue South. There's also Duke's right off PAS in Union Square on 19th St. Tons of yumminess. I miss working there! :)

Re: What's a GOOD place to eat in Soho or Union Square area??

Pete's Tavern is decent if you are looking for a very casual tavern type feel (on 18th and Irving, I believe). There is also a mexican place on 18th street called Los Dos Caminos. (closer to 5th I believe?) Really really great prices and pretty good food and drinks. Too bad America closed; that would have been a good option for you as well.

Re: What's a GOOD place to eat in Soho or Union Square area??

I'm sorry to hear America is closed...I was only there once, but I loved that place.

I second chat n chew, if you're going for cheap, casual, comfort food.

Heartland Brewery is supposed to be good.

Re: What's a GOOD place to eat in Soho or Union Square area??

El Cantinero. It's true what they say, best fajitas in town (not to mention margaritas). If it's warm, ask to eat in the garden!

I also love Tea and Sympathy. It's a VERY small authentic English restaraunt. YUM

For a slightly more formal experience in SoHo, try the Cupping Room Cafe, it's great.

ETA: And of course Zen Palate! FH just brought me some last night. AND we went there over the weekend. Yum. Can you tell I love it?

Did America close recently??? I passed by it a few months ago and it was open (and I was brought back to my 18th surprise b-day party that was held there ... back in 1986 with my good pal Lucy Liu )
