Re: Guest Book Wish Bowl or Sign the Plate?

My cousin had a plate i thought it was the cutest idea! Plus the way i look at it you can use it....from time to time. Not like the cards which are going to sit in a box somewhere! Besides the plate can be something you pass on to your kids i think its cute!!...just my opinion though!!! HEY JUST NOTICED WE HAVE THE SAME WEDDING DATE!!!!

I always liked the traditional guest book - but we are also doing the sign board.

Re: Guest Book Wish Bowl or Sign the Plate?

I'm doing the 'Sign the Plate' option at my wedding. I'm stealing nferrandi's idea and first bringing it to my rehearsal dinner, because as a frequent BM, I've NEVER signed any of their guest books/sign boards, etc. at the weddings. I don't quite 'get' the point of a guest book (is it so you can take attendance or is it more of like a yearbook?)...so I thought at least the platter can be useful!

Re: Guest Book Wish Bowl or Sign the Plate?

I've never heard of a wish bowl...what is that?

I personally like the idea of the Polaroid guest book. It will be a nice memory of everyone who was at your wedding

Re: Guest Book Wish Bowl or Sign the Plate?

Why not do both??? I did last weekend for my SIL shower and it was great!!!

We had the wish bowl ( I made it so it cost practically nothing) and the signature platter.

I can post pics if you want.

Re: Guest Book Wish Bowl or Sign the Plate?

No offense at all, I think they are all cute ideas, however, think to after the wedding, will you really display the signed platter? What will become of the guestbook--will it just become another thing to put 'someplace?'

The wishbowl is nice b/c people write sweet little notes or words of advice to the couple--fun to read, think about.

JMO, no offense meant, whatsoever.

Re: Guest Book Wish Bowl or Sign the Plate?

I did the platter and its displayed in my house. I have a little display with my album, a photo and the plate all put together as a little vignette. I use it on special occassions too.

I think the wishbowl with notes is really nice if you have the kind of crowd that is good at coming up with nice/funny/witty things to say on demand. I knew my crowd adn I'd get 100 cards that say 'congrats' on them. Didnt need that :)

Re: Guest Book Wish Bowl or Sign the Plate?

We had the plate at our RD and we skipped the signing thing for the wedding. Our closest friends and family wrote us little notes on the plate. We figured if we did something at the wedding everyone would write the same thing anyway. We have the plate up on our kitchen wall so I get to look at it every day.

Re: Guest Book Wish Bowl or Sign the Plate?

I like the idea of the wishbowl because I know my guest book will just be put away and the platter wouldnt be used.

I am having them sign around my picture and am also thinking of having a wishbowl.

Re: Guest Book Wish Bowl or Sign the Plate?

I didn't vote because it's really a personal choice. But here's my opinion and what I did:

I didn't want a traditional guest book because I have seen it where only one or two pages get signed. And I just didn't know what I would do with it afterwards.

I did the wish bowl. I also spent a lot of time finding fall colored paper to go with the time of year of the wedding (yah, I had a lot of nervous energy when I was planning ) I bought a beautiful handmade scrap book that was sized like a guest book and then arranged notes in it after the wedding.---Basically this way can work if you're the type of person that will do crafty things in your free time. If not, it's may not be worth doing because the notes could end up just sitting in a box and collecting dust over the years.

I really love the idea of having a guest book. I think it's so classic, and you can look back years later to see what people wrote.

Re: Guest Book Wish Bowl or Sign the Plate?

My SIL used the plate. It was a great idea, but the first person to use the pen had a hard time to get the ink out. All of the sudden it leaked everywhere... there were gray dots all over the plate . Luckily, we made all the splotches into flowers.
