Re: Winter Brides... What were your reasons for choosing a winter month for your wedding?

first because i wanted my own season...
i have like 5 or 6 friends getting married between this year and next year and knowone has there wedding in the winter.

second because then i could afford to have my wedding the way i wanted it.

third because it is pretty and because i would like to go on my honeymoon to get away from the cold weather.

and i dont care if there is a blizzard that day just as long as me and my fh are there and someone there to marry us i will be just fine.

Re: Winter Brides... What were your reasons for choosing a winter month for your wedding?

1. I didnt want the season to dictate my wedding. I really wanted someone to look at my pics and have no clue what season it was.

2. I could have it at the hall I wanted for the price I wanted and then splurge on the remaining vendors (ie photo).

3. I didnt want to pay an insane amount of money and then get a rainy humid day in the summer.

4. I kinda wanted some snow flurries. Friends of ours got married in December and they got a blizzard but to die for pictures too!

All in all it worked out great. No rain, but no snow flurries. It was warm(for me at least) - about mid to late 40s in early Jan -cant ask for more can I

Re: Winter Brides... What were your reasons for choosing a winter month for your wedding?

1. My FI hates humidity so summer was a no no.

2. I have terrible allergies so as much as I would love and outdoor wedding, spring is a no no.

3. FI and his brothers would all be sweaty monkeys in tuxedos in the heat.

4. We have a LOT of OOT guests and hotel rooms are most affordable in February.

5. The cost is an obvious one. Did the math and it will be a 30% cost reduction.

6. IMO, NYC is more romantic in winter.

7. We needed to do it over a 3 day weekend but not a high travel 3 day weekend. So it was either President's Day or MLK. We chose Pres Day so it's not too close to Xmas.

Those are my reasons.

I Love those reasons... I asked because FH and I are seriously considering changing to a winter month because the place that we REALLY, REALLY, REALLY (did I say REALLY) want to have our wedding is actually more affortable in the winter than the place we settled for. I am beginning to think that not having an outdoor ceremony is a great tradeoff for the place we want.... the place that I spend my nights dreaming about...

Re: Winter Brides... What were your reasons for choosing a winter month for your wedding?

#1 The DATE didn't matter to us, as long as we became husband and wife at the end of the day we didn't care when we got married.

#2 We didn't want to spend close to $50,000 on the Reception Hall ALONE for a spring/fall wedding (prices were more than double in October than in January). We had 215 people, that's was over a $15,000 savings for us

#3 My husband sweats from April through October and didn't want to have to wear a tux in weather over 50 degrees (it ended up being 45 and sunny on my wedding day, the first week of January)

#4 The Hall was still decorated for the holiday's and it was absolutely STUNNING - the fairy lights and the fireplace, christmas tree, garland, holly, candlelight ... is was very romantic and 'cozy'

#5 It left us money to have the absolutely most amazing honeymoon in the work (IMO, of course!) We went on a Safari in Africa and then to an Island in the Indian Ocean.

#6 It's one day of you life and when all was said and done, we had a wonderful, memorable and great wedding for less than most people we know. It was top notch and didn;t break the bank for a 5-hour party

Re: Winter Brides... What were your reasons for choosing a winter month for your wedding?

We weren't sure how much help our parents were going to be able to give us, so having the wedding in the winter when it would be more affordable was the only option

I absolutely hate hot weather so I wanted a wedding in the cooler months where I wouldn't have to worry about sweating to death

A friend of mine got married in dec and it was snowing and her pics are beautiful (although I don't think it's going to snow the day after Thanksgiving but if it does so be it)

A lot of my bridal party are teachers, so we had to have the wedding around their vacations.

Re: Winter Brides... What were your reasons for choosing a winter month for your wedding?

Mainly we just didn't want to wait until summer2006, since we want to get started on a family etc....
Also, financially, since we are paying for the wedding, it just worked out wayyyyy better for us. Carlyle gave us a FABULOUS deal compared to spring and summer months, so the decision was easy. The only thing I worry about is ALL of my family is far away, but once they assured me, they would watch the weather and come early if they had to, it was a done deal!

Re: Winter Brides... What were your reasons for choosing a winter month for your wedding?

Thank you so very much.. you all are confirming what I've been feeling for sometime now and you've all brought up points that I failed to consider... I forgot that when it's really hot I tend to get headaches that would not even go away with pain killers... and the sweating part... oh my... thank you ladies... I sense a winter wedding in the works for me... ... but of course I have to have an official meeting with my FH and parents...

Re: Winter Brides... What were your reasons for choosing a winter month for your wedding?

We are having a winter wedding mainly because of price. We originally wanted an October wedding but didn't want to wait until 10/06 and also couldn't afford it. In the end, FI and I just want to be married. Once we settled on the date, I began to love the idea of having a winter wedding. Like everyone else said, the price was great and I would love to have just a little snow on the ground.

Re: Winter Brides... What were your reasons for choosing a winter month for your wedding?

Just to let you know, I was sweating like crazy on my wedding day ... between the adrenaline & the crazy amount of dancing, etc ... I was so warm the entire day.
I rented a white fox fur stole and never put it on once!

OMG - i totally agree with this!! I was so hot - at it was mid 40s outside - people were questioning me whether I was cold and of course my answer was NO and it was so true - i was seriously confused why people we wearing coats - and I was wearing a strapless gown with NOTHING over it. The adrenaline is really crazy and you dont realize it.

Re: Winter Brides... What were your reasons for choosing a winter month for your wedding?

For a few reasons actually...
For one we are both winter babies ( both born in december), met in february, got engaged in February. Even our son is a winter baby ( January) so winter had been so great for us for so many years why change that now?

I hate the heat!!! My cousin got married a few years ago in July and it was soooooooooo hot out I thought I was going to pass out during the ceremony!!! I can just imagine how the bride felt!

Its different. Everyone we know basically gets married during the same few months.. I wanted something that was all our own.

The price let us afford the hall that we loved and let me go crazy with all my little 'Extras' that totally made the wedding! - IMO

And last but not least as someone else already said I would have FLIPPED OUT if I paid tuns more money and had a higher minimum for a spring, summer or fall month and had thunderstorms, or a heatwave.
B/c then in the end I would have gotten the same pictures I could have gotten when it was a little nippy out!!!
Another bride on this site got married at Oheka in September... and had a hurricane!!

We got married and it was chilly but the sky was clear and it was a beautiful day!!!! I also was not cold at all and thought everyone standing outside the church in their fur coats looked funny

Re: Winter Brides... What were your reasons for choosing a winter month for your wedding?

1) I wanted to make our wedding affordable for my family with a lower price per head. As it stands right now, it is about $20 or $25 cheaper per person by having itin February than in teh height of wedding season.

2) Our band is about $2,000 cheaper by having it in February.

3) I am a teacher who works and needs her summer school salary to help pay for the wedding. Having our wedding the weekend that starts the winter intersession (President's Week) allows me to have the week immediately following our wedding OFF and I will be taking the week after that off (using accrued sick days) so we can have a longer honeymoon.

4) My nephew's Bar Mitzvah is in November so we wanted it to be far enough away from that so out of town guests from my family's side can afford to go to both functions and not go broke with travel expenses and gifts.

5) My family likes it cold and I would rather see people a little cool with wraps than people fanning themselves with the menus on the table in the event that the air conditioner breaks down. I know my mother would die from heat.

6) I have serious allergies and sinus issues. If the pollen count in the spring/summer season were to be high on the day of my wedding, I would not be able to breathe.

7) FH and I both went to Syracuse University and we wanted to recreate the place that brought us together so many years ago with 'lake effect' snow, icy roads, 4-wheel drive and Timberland boots used for the function they were intended for!

OMG! THE BRIDE WORE TIMS!!!!
(Just kidding guys!)
