Need wedding gift suggestion for overseas wedding
DH's cousin is getting married 6/18 in Poland and my in-laws are going but Dh and I can't afford it and DH also has MBA classes. What can we send with our in-laws as a small token of congratualations? This couple sent us mother of pearl salt and pepper shakers for our wedding last year.
Any suggestions?

Re: Need wedding gift suggestion for overseas wedding
I, too, have relatives in Poland, and I know my relatives need money more than anything else - it amazes me how they are able to live over there.
I would send a gift for a wedding too, though...hmmmm.
Hey, what if you sent some money (or give IL's money and have them exchange it and put it in a card when they get to Poland), and something like a wedding poem (in english or polish?) I know I've seen the standard "a marriage is a blessed union..." poem written out and framed nicely, and it's so beautiful.
Someone gave one of those to my parents 25 years ago, and it's still hanging in our house. (it's not big - maybe 8x10 or 11x14)

Re: Need wedding gift suggestion for overseas wedding
I think they would appreciate getting some cash the most that way they can always buy what they need... everything is so expensive in Poland and sometimes they cannot afford the things they need...

Re: Need wedding gift suggestion for overseas wedding
I know everyone says cash, but they ALL brought gifts when they came here last summer for our wedding so I would have no idea what we should even give. Money is awkward, too, because of the conversion. If we give $100, it may not be a lot to us, but may be A LOT to them and they may view us as wealthy when we are not and that makes people treat you differently.
DH isn't very helpful either. He doesn't seem to care if we send a gift or not.

Re: Need wedding gift suggestion for overseas wedding
i would send them a care basket with little things in it - when my uncle went to visit relatives in poland he brough each one a basket with stuff like canned meats and really nice toiletry items ( my cousin says it is almost impossible to get nice personal toiletries there.) oh and he shipped a case of toilet paper with happy birthday written on it - my cousins loved that - everyone was talking about it for a long time.
maybe a nice basket of kitchen items?
i am sure if you give it a bit of thought you'll find something they will love. i agree with you about the money conversion - if you dont know how much would be considered appropriate i wouldnt send it .

That is so funny that you mention toilet paper. I went to Poland with DH back when we were dating. We went with his parents to visit his brother and family for DH's niece's communion. BIL asked FIL to bring a suitcase filled with Bounty papertowels because the stuff they had was really poor quality. I think FIL brought 18 rolls or something and we all laughed but BIL hugged and kissed his father when he opened the suitcase.
This couple getting married, though, lives in an area where a lot of things are as available as they are here. The families are pretty well off and the wedding is in a nice hotel in Sopot on the water.
Maybe I should get them a blanket from Things Remembered.
