Best breeders / places to buy or adopt dogs in Manhattan

I have posted a few times - I am doing lots of research on different breeds. FH and I are torn between getting a chihuahua or a yorkie. I know that everyone says not to buy from pet stores, but there doesn't seem to be an abundance of places to adopt puppies in the city. We are really set on getting a puppy - we are willing to adopt or buy, we just really want to start looking. I haven't heard back from 'chiwantone' (some of you suggested I contact Brittany about Chihuahuas), and breeders in Brooklyn haven't called me back either. It's getting a little frustrating.

I thought I would put my feelers out to see if anyone has any suggestions as to who else to contact.

Please try and rescue a chi or yorkie if you can. If not, go with a reputable breeder like the one Lolita4life gave you.
