Did anyone send Engagement Announcements?

NOT a Save the Date type thing? I'm just wondering if anyone does it anymore, seems very uncommon.

Re: Did anyone send Engagement Announcements?

No. We just called very immediate family and friends when we just got engaged. Though we did not have an engagement party (just a dinner with immediate family), we did not want it to look like we were 'fishing for gifts'. Some people view engagement announcements like that. Word of mouth was sufficient for us.

Re: Did anyone send Engagement Announcements?

I did/ I have such a big family, and we don't talk often with all of them, so I didn't want to make dozens of phone calls. I sent out announcements with a photo. if you do a BHB search you can probably fund the pic. I made them on the computer. The front was a picture of Cinderella's castle (we were engaged at WDW) and I put a star at the top and it said 'when you wish upon a star...'

and in the isnide it said 'your dreams come true. and there was a little heart shaped pic or snow white and prince charming. I also rubber cemented a wallet size of us in front of the castle to the left inside part of the card.

We sent them to family and close friends. They looked like these. We got them from ebay.

Re: Did anyone send Engagement Announcements?

since it was close to xmas, we sent out ones that (i think are in one of my photo albums) that said

'Christmas Came Early'

and had a pic of us right after we got engaged.... then on the other side, it said 'We got engaged'...

so it killed two birds with one stone.

Re: Did anyone send Engagement Announcements?

We did them - we resisted at first, but our families really wanted them. We did photo greeting card announcements from Wal-Mart - they were super-cute and very cheap, and everybody loved them!

Re: Did anyone send Engagement Announcements?

JP&EP - that's really nice.

I don't know, i've been toying with the idea since we're not having an eparty now and he has such a large family.

Re: Did anyone send Engagement Announcements?

I know you said 'no STD' type of things, but our E.Announcement was also an STD for those who don't know.

Nope, we just sent a STD. I think that it signifies that you're announcing your engagement. I don't think I would do both.
I know a lot of people do an announcement in the newspaper.

Re: Did anyone send Engagement Announcements?

We just called close family and I emailed friends. I knew we were having an e-party, so I didn't feel right sending out e notices also.

Re: Did anyone send Engagement Announcements?

We did! Made them on my computer and printed them out on pretty paper. Included our pic, the date of the wedding (so it doubled as our STD), and also noted our change of address since we moved in together. We sent it to every one tho our close family and friends already knew!
