So my parents think a card box is a bad idea
They don't think it's 'safe.' Anyone else agree? My dad says I should have a bag or sac and keep it close by.

Re: So my parents think a card box is a bad idea
I am not sure which I will do. I personally don't want to carry around a bag all night w/ cards.A suggestion...if you do have a card box, maybe you can assign someone to be 'in charge' of it. I would suggest an older family member or friend who may not be up and dancing all night.
At FBIL's wedding, FH's gramma was at the table most of the night and she was 'in charge' of the card box.
Just a suggestion!

Re: So my parents think a card box is a bad idea
I think I'll have someone keep an eye on it... I can't see myself carrying around a bag or purse either. Plus...I've been to plenty weddings where mailboxes, birdcages, etc. have been and thankfully no one has taken anything.Ours is sealed shut...the only way someone can get inside it is if they have a screwdriver and well...God Bless ya if you're going to stand there with a screwdriver during a wedding!

honestly, nothing is 'safe'. No matter what you have, there's always the remote possibility that an evelope could get stolen, or even just fall out and get lost.

Re: So my parents think a card box is a bad idea
I made the Picture Photo Cube for my sister, and they kept it right behing where the bride and groom sat. But my sister also had a bad, but the bag couldn't hold ALL the cards, so the
&
would go to the Photo Box and put the cards from the bag into the box. The box was pretty safe. The BM's table was right next to it....

Some of the rental boxes, cakes, mailboxes, etc. have a lock with a key.

very true. you never know.
I kept the card box right next to our table. Someone would have had to pick up the box and take it, to steal anything. I think that would have been a little obvious

Re: So my parents think a card box is a bad idea
Ill have to have someone occasionally empty it. I always write checks out to the bride and/or grooms name. I would never write it out to cash or give cash for that reason.

Just make sure the box is placed where it is visible to you and your family. Our was right next to our sweetheart table.

We felt the same way, but we decided to put it on a table behind us and made sure that family members kept an eye on it. I only was missing 2 envelops - and i'm thinking that was because they didn't give one.
It was great to be hassle free - I didn't want to carry around a bag since I danced all night!

Re: So my parents think a card box is a bad idea
I started to do the card 'cage' thingy and my mom had a fit. I wound up just getting a bag and it worked out. I wasn't carrying it around all day and my day-of person helped me keep an eye on it (along with 'hawkeye' mom).

Re: So my parents think a card box is a bad idea
I heard a horrible story a wad of cash being stolen from the Father of the Bride's jacket pocket during their reception. I thought that could easily be done without anyone seeing. So, I had a card cage and it was placed in plain site where everyone could see. I figured no one would have gotten away with taking it. I also didn't want anyone to have to have the responsibility of holding on to them.P.S. (When the Bride and Groom watched their video, they saw the Father of the Groom taking the money from the other Father's pocket
)

Re: So my parents think a card box is a bad idea
I was at a wedding recently and this HUGE card box was on their table. It was totally horrible. It was like a big mailbox. I think that there should be something that is not in plain site. People should have to make contact with the bride and groom when giving them their cards - not just drop it in a box.

Re: So my parents think a card box is a bad idea
I think a card box or a cage is fine. My cousin just had a cage. When she walked around to say hi, a lot of people handed her cards and she put them in the cage.I think as long as you have a lock on it, it will be fine. I think its easier to steal a bag with cards in it, then a mailbox.
That post about the father of the groom stealing from the father of the bride is crazy!!!

Re: So my parents think a card box is a bad idea
We were faced with the same dilema. We didn't think it was safe to just leave it there.So.. what we ended up doint, is asking DH's mom, to take the envelopes from the inside, every so often. After ceremony, cocktail. And we did have someone watching it - taking shifts - at all times.
Towards the end of the night, the box stood there empty and MIL had the envelopes.

Re: So my parents think a card box is a bad idea
many brides don't do the bag anymore because they feel it seems tacky to walk around to the tables 'asking' for the money cards. A card box is nice because if you don't get to a table, thye can drop it in whenever they like. Plus, they are so big, that it'd be hard to walk out of the hall with it unnoticed. We were going to do a box, but ran out of time, I ended up using a plain old basket and it was next to our table, but also next to my parents table-my dad kept an eye on it and it was fine.
