Girls who did NOT have a video - Please come in!!!
My SIL is debating if she should have one or not. Her Fiance has been married before and thinks its a waste.Do you regret not getting it??
Its not that she can't afford it - So it is not a budget issue she is mainly going by her FH saying they dont need it
Thanks!

Well she is going by what he says. She feels like if he says its not worth it then its not worth it. She also says she hates the way she looks on video ( but then begged me to videotape her shower
)

Re: Girls who did NOT have a video - Please come in!!!
I dont regret it... how much is it now? $3,000.00? And I'd probably watch it what, 4 time max?Right now I'd rather have the nice stainless steel $3,000 fridge taht i'll use multiple times a day.
It sounds rude/unsentimental, but between my still photos and my memories I dont miss it at all.

Me too. I know I'd never watch it. I still haven't done my album! And I didn't want the interference in my face all throughout the ceremony and reception. I don't regret it at all for us, but I know other couples love to watch and re-watch theirs, so to each their own. It wasn't a money issue for us at all.

You can FM NauticaBride. On the regret post she posted regretting not videotaping her wedding.
Personally I am very glad we got video. There are a lot of things that I just don't remember (how the band sounded, how people danced, how I came out the isle) not to mention so many I didn't see, and am looking forward to watching it when I get the DVD!

Re: Girls who did NOT have a video - Please come in!!!
yeah...just the tv show alone that i'm on, i watched it 3 times in a 1 day span. its an experience captured entirely. Photos can do but so much, your memory can do but so much, and even video can do but so much.however, if you combine all 3 elements, i believe you can relive your wedding anytime you want. no matter what, 1 thing will not capture the day..

Re: Girls who did NOT have a video - Please come in!!!
We did not get one, just one from my brother's video camera. that was fine with us. He used his apple to edit everything with music and interviews. It was great because he added in RD footage, and when we picked up our BP and MIL from airport.

I would say something like this to her (especially since budget is not an issue):'Would you rather not have it and regret not having it or have it and think it's a waste?'
IMO, regretting it is far worse than having it and thinking it's a waste.

Re: Girls who did NOT have a video - Please come in!!!
I pretty much regret not having one. Everyone told me, I would not want it, it would be too 'in your face', etc..and I went along with it..looking ack, I wish i had it...there are some things the photos did not capture, and I just wish I had one done.

Re: Girls who did NOT have a video - Please come in!!!
I'm a photo person and I didn't want the video - DH agreed with me on it, but it was my decision. I see it as a waste of money and something I won't watch much at all.On the plus side, 2 people brought their video cameras to our wedding, so I will still see how it all looked, but won't cost me a dime

Re: Girls who did NOT have a video - Please come in!!!
I am a big fan of the video. I got one and never thought not to but a couple of my friends did not get one for their day. I have not got the edited version yet but only the uncut one and i have watched it so many times. I got to see so many things i missed while i was doing other things at the reception...like people dancing, funny things peopel did. I am really glad we got it and tell everyone they should get one...even if its just for themselves and not for anyone else.I also loved the fact that i could watch the church from the people view and not my own. It made it more special.

My best friend got married 5 years ago and did not get a video and has regretted it ever since. She said her day went by so fast, she cant remember anymore and it would be nice to have a video to look back on.

Re: Girls who did NOT have a video - Please come in!!!
I didn't get a professional video. I'd seen those of friends and my brother's, and they were too 'Hollywood' and that's not me. We also had a small wedding so I feel like a videographer would have felt intrusive. My photos came out beautifully and really captured the day more than anything.
My aunt and uncle did tape the ceremony and the key parts of the reception. I'd be very sorry if I didn't have that. I don't regret not having the professional video, but that's just my perspective. I have friends who've watched theirs a handful of times and friends who've watched them several times.

Re: Girls who did NOT have a video - Please come in!!!
We didnt get it, it wasnt a matter of budget, it was because DH hates them! He feels they are intrusive and annoying! And I was pretty indifferent to the whole thing. I dont regret not getting it at all! I did get a family member to tape the ceremony and some special moments during the reception. I watched that once. It has been a year and I have not had one desire to see it again.I think it totally depends on the person you are. I am not a video person, I dont watch movies more than once, I dont like sitting through long movies, etc. I will however spend hours upon hours pouring over photos! I love love love photos! SO to me that was more important and I got what I wanted! So I have no regrets!
If she decides against it I would just suggest that she ask a friend to just tape the cermony because you dont remember that IMO. It goes too fast and you have too many emotions going on to remember what was happening!

This is pretty much me too. I could have afforded it, but didn't want it and did see it as a waste. I hate how I look on video and was not even that thrilled with thinking about all the photos that I was going to have to pose for. We went to a wedding 3 weeks after ours and the video guy was SOOOOO annoying - even the bride said so afterwards. Also, maybe I am a sap, but I wanted to remember my day the way I remember it, not go back through the video thinking 'oh geez, why was I doing that?' or critiquing it. I have wonderful memories and photos and that was enough for me.
But I do agree with the other posters, if she really wants it, she should think about it. If I really wanted it, I would have cut the $ somewhere else in the less permanent areas, like the flowers, favors, add ons at the catering hall, things that are not going to last longer than the one day and no one will really remember 10 years later.
ETA: I noticed that her fiance has been married before, but this is her first wedding. It may be a lot more important to her for that reason too, right?

I don't regret not getting it; our pictures truly tell the whole story. Also, a dear friend's husband taped our ceremony as a surprise....I admit...we are happy we have that.

We had ours taped and I know I would be furious with myself if we hadn't. DH didn't care too much one way or the other, but even he is really glad we have the video to look back on.DH's brother got married last weekend and didn't have a videographer. I think they will regret not being able to watch their ceremony or my DH's awesome BM speech.
