Question for Past Tahiti Honeymooners
We're planning to do Tahiti, Bora Bora and Moorea.
Which should we go to first, Bora Bora or Moorea?

Re: Question for Past Tahiti Honeymooners
I went to Moorea first then did the Tahitian Princess cruise. I'm not sure it matters which Island you go to first. We flew into Tahiti so we actually stayed there one night, took the Ferry to Moorea, spent 3 nights there then took the ferry back to Tahiti. Moorea was the first stop on the cruise so we did an excursion with them. When we stayed inthe hotel, all we did was unwind from the craziness of wedding whirwind!

Re: Question for Past Tahiti Honeymooners
I didn't island hop - landed in Tahiti and went straight to Bora Bora so I can't really say except that I know we flew over Moorea so it's closer to Tahiti. You might want to make the shorter trip first since you'll probably be tired from all the flying anyway.

Re: Question for Past Tahiti Honeymooners
Based upon my research, you should probably do Tahiti first (since you're flying in there), followed by Moorea (closest to Tahiti) followed by Bora Bora (furthest). Since the accomodations in Bora Bora are generally considered the nicest, you'll also be saving the best for last.

I agree about the closer/further factor but definitely NOT about the nicer factor. I stayed at the Inter Continental in Moorea and it was by far nicer than most of the hotels we saw in Bora Bora. We stayed on an overwater bungalo. Many of the hotels we saw on Bora Bora weren't even ON the water side of the street (had to cross the street to get to the beach. Although we didn't stay overnight in Bora Bora, we spent an afternoon at the beach there at the Bora Bora Beach Resort. Now keep in mind too that each island definitely has a personality of their own and they are all MAGNIFICENT. You will love each and every island as they each have something a little different to offer. ALso, please note, that French Polynesia, as a whole, does not really have the nicest beaches. They have alot of coral so be sure to wear water shoes while in the water.

Totally agree!!! We are looking into Tahiti/Moorea/BB for our HM too next June. After A LOT of research and a bit of an increase to our HM budget we decided on 1 night in Tahiti 4 in Moorea and 4 on Bora Bora (in that order)... although we may do 2 nights in TAhiti and 3 in Moorea to save a little more $$$.
Moorea is supposed to be amazing, but nothing compares to the lagoons in bora bora... so i've heard! Plus, we want to do an overwater bungalow in bora bora and want that to be on our last few nights. Check out Tahiti-Explorer.com for their forums. It helped me a lot.
What hotels are you looking at? We are most likely going to do the Pearl resorts on both M and BB and maybe intercontinental on Tahiti. Good luck and FM me for more info!

How much did you get quoted CaMacho?
I'm looking to go to Bora Bora specifically, maybe even take a cruise over there too.

Re: Question for Past Tahiti Honeymooners
We did Moorea first and were happy that we did. Not that Moorea is nicer, its just different than Bora Bora. However, the colors of the water can't even compare.

I guess if you stayed on the mainland in Bora Bora this might be true. But most of the nice resorts in Bora Bora are on their own Motus.
We stayed at the Pearl in an OWB and it was amazing.
I did not experience ANY problems with coral in the beach waters at all. Besides the man-made coral reef nurseries under the bungalows, the lagoon waters were nothing but pure white sand - the softest I've ever felt. I never had to wear shoes in the water.

I have your review saved in my notebook and look at the pics often! I am reconsindering going to Moorea. Our initial plan was 1st night in Tahiti, next 4 in Moorea and last 4 in Bora Bora. But FH wants to get a tattoo while we are there (which will take ~2days) so we just talked and will most likely stay all 8 nights on Bora Bora.
Now...next question, what excursions, add-ons, food plans, etc did you all do?!?!?

Very true about mainland vs. the motus. I didn't think about that!

As far as excursions, meal plans etc...
We chose not to do a meal plan. We saved money by skipping one meal each day. For example we'd eat a big breakfast late morning, skip lunch, then have dinner.
We had a shark-feeding excursion included with our booking and we also booked a private horseback riding on a private beach.
