RP from 05: need advice re bridal party situation..

I woke up sick today (sore throat, headachy, etc) so I am home trying to rest, we'll leave for NY after FH comes home from work.

But we got some additional bad/sad news, one of GMs might have to drop out since his wife's father is being taken off life support this weekend and it all depends on the funeral, etc.

FI is considering asking our mutual good friend (how we met really, he is already reading in the ceremony together with his wife) ) or alternatively we may just keep it open and be uneven.

Either really works for me, it seems like we need to wait and see and then may ask our friend... what would you do? I can't think straight since I feel really ill and this is the third person/couple not coming for various reasons in the past week so we are SAD!

I'm so sorry to hear about that.

I've been to weddings with uneven numbers, and it looked fine, you could always have two bridesmaids escorting one groomsman to keep it even...

Re: RP from 05: need advice re bridal party situation..

IMO I would keep his spot open and just have an uneven number in the BP.

I don't think you should ask the reader to step up - I know I wouldn't like being asked to be a filler in a bridal party.

I competley agree. No need to fill his spot. Uneven is okay.

I agree 100% I had 6 BM's and 4 GM and it was fine.

I think it would be a honor to ask the reader to step up and fill in. Im sure he would be so happy to do so. It isnt like there isnt a REALLY good reason why the other guy cant do it.

Re: RP from 05: need advice re bridal party situation..

Keep the spot open and see if your GM can do it. If not, then I think you should ask the reader to do it, he might really want to so it would be nice to give him the chance. But there's nothing wrong with the BP being uneven if he declines, I'd just like to give him the opportunity instead of assuming.

Thanks all!!! Yeah I think we'll wait and see. I know this guy would probably be ok with being asked last minute since he also asked people when someone got deployed in Oct. for his wedding. But I do see both sides of it.

Re: RP from 05: need advice re bridal party situation..

I personally would not replace the GM at the last minute. no one will notice if your BP is uneven. they would be more concerned that he and his family are holding up ok.

good luck!
