IS your honeymoon supposed to be the 'trip of a lifetime'?

Our weddings are called so many things...the biggest moment, the best day....which honestly I am hoping to have MANY moments that outshine this shindig with my honey over the years, so this brings me to honeymoon...

is it meant to be the trip of a lifetime?? Is that why we are so keen on picking expensive packages and exotic locales...?

Just curious to what you ladies think.

Re: IS your honeymoon supposed to be the 'trip of a lifetime'?

Ours isn't a trip of a lifetime!
We're taking a short trip up to Vermont...relaxing honeymoon package at a very beautiful resort and spa. Simple...like us! but oh so relaxing after all this wedding planning.
Our small trip certainly beats no honeymoon, which was what we were going to take being we'll be broke after this wedding!

Re: IS your honeymoon supposed to be the 'trip of a lifetime'?

we are treating this as the trip of a lifetime but our situation is different we have a 9 month old daughter and do not get out much at all!!!! plus we are on a tight budget so we know we will not be going away for a loooooooooong time after this!! We have been looking into tropical all inclusive (reasonable) places! Plus we registered with a travel agent for the shower!!

Re: IS your honeymoon supposed to be the 'trip of a lifetime'?

It's whatever you and FH want it to be. Mostly, it gives you and by then DH a chance to be together, alone. What form that takes is up to you.

We chose to do a big trip (see avatar pic) because we were willing and able to take the time and money to do it. We hadn't gone on a big trip together before, and we wanted to go somewhere neither of us had ever been. We also realized that if we didn't do a big trip for our HM, we probably wouldn't for 20 years.

this is how we are...we have traveled extensively over the years and will continue to do so-I want to go EVERYWHERE!

our honeymoon is actually being incorporated into a trip we've been planning for 4 years- the World Cup (soccer) in Germany.

Re: IS your honeymoon supposed to be the 'trip of a lifetime'?

We are going overboard for our HM, but our thinking is that when we have children (hopefully in about 2 years), we won't be able to travel like this again. Or at least, for a long, long time.

This won't be the trip of a lifetime for us - there will be many more trips for us in the future. Plus - ours will be short because he has to get back to law school.

Re: IS your honeymoon supposed to be the 'trip of a lifetime'?

i think the honeymoon is really just supposed to be a time to relax and enjoy a week with your new spouse... i don't think its supposed to be the trip of a lifetime, but i think a lot of us use it as an excuse to spend a little more than we would on a 'regular' vacation- just becasue its the honeymoon. i know for us, we went to a place that was about $600 a night.... we just told ourselves it was one of the few times we would be able to justify spending that much on a vacation. it was an awesome week, but i wouldn't say it was the trip of a lifetime....
now 2 years ago, my parents took 3 months and DROVE with their camper from new jersey to alaska... now i would consider THAT the trip of a lifetime

Re: IS your honeymoon supposed to be the 'trip of a lifetime'?

We're not really looking at this as a trip of a lifetime. We travel a lot (I grew up travelling with my parents about once a month), and I can't see stopping after the wedding and kids. We might need to tweak our vacations a little once we have kids, but we'll still be going on plenty of trips.

We're looking at this as a nice time to spend alone with each other.

We treated ours as a trip of a lifetime. We went all out. Spent some good money because we felt you only have one wedding (hopefully) so you only have one honeymoon! If I could do it over I WOULD!!! We had so much fun in Hawaii we are hoping to get back there for our 5 year anniversary!

We do a lot of traveling so we are not making a big deal out of it.

Re: IS your honeymoon supposed to be the 'trip of a lifetime'?

We're trying not to make a big deal of it. We have travelled together before, and the trip we took after we got engaged would be tough to beat (we visited several countries in Europe).

I feel it's best to not put too much expectation on the honeymoon or the wedding day. We'll have a whole lifetime together and we'll have lots of great days/trips I'm sure.

Re: IS your honeymoon supposed to be the 'trip of a lifetime'?

I don't think it has to be.

We chose to make our HM as luxurious a trip as we can. The other times we have taken trips together, they have been pretty 'budget', meaning off-season and as cheap as possible. So our HM will be a splurge.

Re: IS your honeymoon supposed to be the 'trip of a lifetime'?

Ours definitely won't be. Probably because we are only going away for a day or two right after the wedding.

FH keeps talking about taking a 'real' vacation next year.

Re: IS your honeymoon supposed to be the 'trip of a lifetime'?

I definitely think your wedding day is one of the most beautiful and memorable days of your life - It sure was for me, but I know that there will be more days ahead just as awesome.

In my case I have to say that our Hawaii/Vegas vacation was a trip to remember - mostly because we never lived together nor had we ever been away on vacation together - so it was memorable and fantastic to say the least.

We do plan on going on further vacations - so I dont' think it was the vacation of the lifetime - but a vacation that was well spent and we definitely went all the way when reserving the best hotel rooms and eating at the best locations - only because you come back to all these expenses and will probably never spend money like your honeymoon ever again..lol

My advise is to go all the way if you can and plan yourself and awesome honeymoon

Re: IS your honeymoon supposed to be the 'trip of a lifetime'?

I think it will be the trip of a lifetime no matter where you go.
I loved Aruba and the whole trip but I think that some of it had to do with the fact that I was on my HM.
