Harry Potter VENT Alright, I'm sorry but.... POLL

Am I the only adult that just doesn't get or care about Harry Potter?? What is the craze with the little sorcerer boy??? And why are adults so obsessed with these books, aren't they for for kids??? Who cares who the half blood prince is cause I sure don't give a rats ***!! I'm sorry if this offends some of you but it's been driving me crazy for years! Once I attempted to read one and it bored the crap out of me, I'm sure if I was 13 I would've loved it, but as an adult I just don't understand the appeal. Please someone explain this to me, or at least tell me I'm not alone!!!

you just made my day!

ok, i dont think i hate him as much as you do... But i really dont see the big deal in it then again, i was also never into star wars, lord of the rings, and most of those things that seem to have a big "following". the 1st movie was cool, the 2nd one i couldve done without (or was that the 3rd.. i dont remember which movie theyre up to). I just dont understand the obsession. For my 15 & 16 year old brother and sister i kinda 'get it', but for my mom and friends- No, i dont 'get it'

I don't understand why people get so upset over the fact that some adults enjoy these books. So what? How does this effect anyone's life but their own. Maybe, they enjoy the simplicity of these books in what is a complex world. I know I do. Out of all of the things in this world to get upset over and question this is one that I don't understand. JMHO.

ditto. I don't care one way or another. I haven't read any of the books or had any urge to read them, but I don't hate them. I never got into any of those long movie series - I think cause I have no attention span so can't watch any movie over like 90 minutes As for the books, I just never even tried to read em, so can't comment one way or another

I enjoy the books, but have only read the first three and am not in a hurry to get the latest one. I am not an obsessed fan by any stretch, but I can sort of understand the attraction. It is an escape of sorts, like most forms of entertainment. I think the books are clever and for me, they are a quick read for fun.

You are not the only one, obviously. There was a thread on this other day.

Everyone has popular things they hate.
For me it is Disney & baseball.

Life goes on.

Re: Harry Potter VENT Alright, I'm sorry but.... POLL

I used to think the way you do - thought it was a kids book, what's the big deal, etc. Then I read the first book - it took me at least 2 months to get through the first 3 or 4 chapters - I finished the rest of the book in a day. That was 4 years ago and I've been hooked ever since

I'm not obsessed as to be going to any parties for it - but FFIL's g/f pre-ordered the book for Kevin, and i will be stealing it from him (he needs to study for classes - he has no time to read )

It's weird, because I don't like Star Wars or Lord of the Rings also (I still blame Kevin for wasting over 2 1/2 hours of my life making me watch the first LOTR) - but there's just something about HP that really just makes me want to keep reading.

Re: Harry Potter VENT Alright, I'm sorry but.... POLL

I just came back from a Potter Party, so you know which category I'm in. I totally didn't want to read HP, didn't see the appeal, but then a friend of mine told me they were good, I took her word and read. The beginning of the first book, I was like, this is cute, but it's a kid's book, whatever..but as the books go on they get darker, more complicated, etc. By Book 3 I was hooked and I was so into how dark it really is. When i read the alter books, I actually can't believe children are reading this. They're going to have nightmares! Or they won't understand. The movies are a lot of fun, but so far they really haven't gone into the true depth of the sotry, which is where I believe the meaning lies. I can go on and on about the movie for Book 3 and how they never explain Padfoot, Prongs, Moony and Wormtail, or explain why Harry's Partonus is a Stag, but we'd be here all night, and you'd have NO clue what I was talking about . Honestly they're not just children's books. They have incredible depth and detail, and are much more intriguing than many of the adult books I've read.

I also have no desire to read any HP books or watch any of the movies. I also never got into any science fiction movies growing up - they've never had any sort of appeal to me. But hey, if anyone else gets a kick out of them - have fun.
