If you have an adult cat, which is an easier transition?

If you have an adult cat, which is an easier transition?
Bringing in a kitten to the house, or an already grown cat? I want another kitty, but I love Hades sooo much and I would never ever want to make him sad. He's my best boy, and to see him upset would break my heart. But, if only a week or two of agitation would in the end result in a new friend for him, then it wouldn't be so bad. What do you guys think?

If you go to rescue groups or pet adoption places you might be able to bring your current cat and let him 'pick out' a new playmate. When we adopted our cat from a Petsmart adoption center we were able to bring our dog and introduce them on neutral ground to see if they got along.
But I think kitten might be easier than another adult.

Re: If you have an adult cat, which is an easier transition?
I've found that a kitten makes it easier because the grown cat isn't as threatened, as they can still dominate the smaller cat.I've been the proud mother of an evil cat for the past 15 years and he HATES all other creatures (including...well, mostly, me
). But I was dying for a kitten, so we brought one home and introduced them slowly.....the kitten was in isolation for almost 3 weeks before they even saw each other. Then we gradually allowed them to spend time with each other.....now....they're best friends and they lick each other's butts!

I'm so glad to hear that! I figured it would be good for Hades to have a friend. And it couldn't hurt to have him a bit more friendly. I've heard that introducing a new cat can help with this.

We were advised to get another adult cat as a young kitten could annoy my 4-year old male cat. We eventually got another male the exact same age. There was a difficult week where we kept the new guy in the bathroom, but they are the best of buddies now.

It depends. Sometimes a kitten can REALLY annoy an older cat. I have BEAUTIFUL 3 y/o cats up for adoption!

My 15 year old calico cat doesn't want anything to do with another cat. She just can't stand them! For some reason she thinks she should be the only cat in the house. She has however been able get along with my fiance's dog and they are good company for each other. I think I'd like another cat but I just don't want to put her in stressful position. Here is a pic of Cooper and Calliecat:
