NWR- Teachers- Opinion?Long but advice needed
i student taught a few years ago in a district that hired me for the following year, I wound up not passing the CT teacher test so they had to take away the postion (it was in a middle school) I left on good terms and still keep in contact with some people from thereok- so i get another job in a different district have been there for two years and going on my third- the district is NOT a good one. I like the people i work with, i complain a lot about it but it really isnt that bad...
I was not planning on leaving this year, but was planning on it for next year IF i got a job... I saw an opening for an english teacher for the district i really want to be in- the one i student taught at.
I figured i couldnt let it go by without appyling- so i did, hadnt heard anything so just let it go- wasnt upset at all
today i get a phone call from the principal at the high school in the district i applied to asking me if i would like to come in for an interview
I wanted middle school, thats where i student taught, thats where i have been for two years, i like it! I subbed in a high school and i didnt love it... they are so close to my age which is just part of it...
SOOOO now my dilemma is ...what do i do? do i go on the interview? do i call and say I wasnt interested in high school? do i call and just say thank you but no thank you? Do i go do the interview and if i get the job leave????
ahhhhhhhhh

If you don't think you will feel comfortable teaching HS, then I would call and tell them you are interested in a MS position. I taught HS and its a whole different animal than MS. Don't forget though, you will only be close in age to them for a few years. You will keep getting older, but the new kids are always the same age as the ones before them (kind of depressing, isn't it?)

Re: NWR- Teachers- Opinion?Long but advice needed
take it one step at a time...but definitely GO ON THE INTERVIEW!!!even if it is a HS position, it is great to get your foot in the door and you could always asked to be trasfered down to the Middle school if there is an opening...
i teach HS and i love it (i also look like i am a student and get questioned when i am in the faculty bathroom)...maybe having your own classroom would be different and you will end up likeing it...

I definitely would not pass up the opportunity to interview there. There are so many possibilities....transfers, someone not coming back this school year, etc. Good luck!

I agree, you should definitely go on the interview. It's a good way to get your foot in the door. You put in your time and work on getting transferred to MS.Good Luck!

I definitely would go on the interview. you never know who other principal's might know. u dont have to accept a job just because u r offered it. go see how it is and take it 1 step at a time!

thats true, i am jumping the gun, i may not even get the job- i am lucky that i can go on this interview and not be too consumed with the results of it, although i would want it to go well...i just dont know if i am ready to switch schools yet especially if i would be switching to a high school and i know i dont really want to be there

Re: NWR- Teachers- Opinion?Long but advice needed
In my opinion you should go on the interview and let them know that you are particulary interested in the middle school and ask if there are any job openings there. If they like you and offer you a job in the high school you could take if you want it and when something does open up in the middle school you have a better chance of getting it because your already in the district. The question is what do you really want?

if i had it my way i would stay where i am this year and then move to this district in a middle school for next year...if this were a middle school position/nterview there would be NO question

Def go on the interview. I interviewed for a position in a middle school that i wasn't totally into - and didn't get the job - however, the principal really liked me and reccomended me to elementary principals - where I got my job. So it could lead to something more desireable

Re: NWR- Teachers- Opinion?Long but advice needed
Go on the interview. You might change your mind about the job, and if you don't, but you get an offer, you don't have to take it. You can tell them then, after they interviewed and loved you, that you think MS would be a better fit for you (tactfully, of course). My point is that they will remember you better when there's a MS job if you interviewed and impressed them already. If you turn down the interview, they are less likely to come back to you later.
JMO, but that is my experience as a person on the interviewing and hiring end of jobs.

Re: NWR- Teachers- Opinion?Long but advice needed
Definitely do it...I started teaching 12th graders when i was 22 - the age difference (or lack thereof) isn't as big of a deal as you might think. the kids actually respect me more than a lot of the older teachers whom they see as condescending. It can't hurt to go on the interview...

I would call and thank them for picking you, but tell them you don't want HS. Say that you are interested in JH and if they have any positions available there, you would love to go for an interview.

Re: NWR- Teachers- Opinion?Long but advice needed
just spoke with the principal at the school and i AM going for the interview at 9:45am on Wednesday...so just a few days to make myself crazy! good part about interviewing this time around is that I have a teaching job already so it is a lot less stressful! he seems very nice, but there will be the dept chair, 2 english teachers, and a student at the interview... YIKES! i didnt go through that last time! urrr
