Hand Cancelling Invites
I need some advice:I took my invites to the Post Office today and asked for hand cancelling - the person at the window takes my bag of invites and puts them on her chair and tells me 'ok Someone will get to them when they have time' -
How do I know that my invites are going to go out? What if they forget and my bag gets thrown out or sits there for days?
Am I worrying for nothing? I am so scared - it was only 90 invites - should I go back there and check at lunch time that they are not still sitting on the chair?
Why does every aspect of planning this wedding have to be so stressful?

Re: Hand Cancelling Invites
We were allowed to hand stamp them ourselves...can you go back and ask...i hate when people make you feel like youre nuts for asking for something...Im sure they will be fine...the post office is good with that stuff :)

Re: Hand Cancelling Invites
I am going to go back at lunch time - she was real mean to me at first and then she realized that I looked as if I were going to cry and she began stamping a few, but then stopped to help someone else - but I will go back anyway and make sure they went out if not I will ask them to let me stamp them -I just get so nervous - every time I turn around something bad happens

I probably wouldn't have left them there afriad they might not go out. I would definately go back at lunch to see.
When I was sending mine out, the post office I went to didn't allow you to do it yourself, so I just put them in the slot.

Re: Hand Cancelling Invites
I hate the post office. They weighed mine, let me buy the stamps (I put the stamps on while I was there). Then, I hand cancelled them. They told me to put them in a box and then someone else walked by and made a comment to another worker 'you should weigh these again- I don't think 60c is enough'I wanted to smack her!
They all went through fine, but I do remember them saying that in the future, it would be 12 cents extra per envelope for hand cancelling

Re: Hand Cancelling Invites
I am sure they are fine! When I dropped mine off at the PO they told me they would hand cancel them in the back. I was a little freaked out at first, but then I put my faith that they would do the right thing.
I got one invite returned to me b/c my friend gave me their wrong address for their new house, and it had been hand cancelled.
My dad is a supervisor at the PO and told me that they always hand cancel them infront of the person, but every office does it differently. One word of advice they all gave me (my dad and the people at my PO) was to bring them in at off times, don't go before work, during lunch, or after work.

Re: Hand Cancelling Invites
My FH took them to the post office in Hicksville during his lunch break. There is rarely a wait in line. But unfortunately, they do not hand cancel every invite at the window. We had a little over 100 invites that he brought in. The post office woman checked 10 to make sure each weighed the same. Then she told him that they hand cancel them 'in the back.' I believe they may send them out in batches because I have gotten calls from different invitees about receipt at different times (even if they all live in the same area).

Re: Hand Cancelling Invites
I was just at the post office this weekend going over all this. According to them, they are accomodating brides by hand cancelling our invitations, so they do them in the back when they have time, in between customers, etc...I trust them..

Re: Hand Cancelling Invites
Hum we went to our local post office which is really small so the line gets no longer than about 5 people at lunch time. I had my mom go during an off hour (10 am) there was no line so the guy did it right then and there.I am sorrythat they did this to you, but it is a federal offense to tamper with the mail. Once the postal worker has the mail is is suppose to get delivered. I am sure they will be fine.

Re: Hand Cancelling Invites
I'm nervous too - I brought mine yesterday and she just took them and sent me on my way. So, in a couple of days I'm going to ask around and make sure people are getting them.

I had the same issue. I paid $5, left them there and prayed that they would arrive safely.I am happy to report that everyone got their invitation, and they were hand cancelled and looked great!

Re: Hand Cancelling Invites
it's just that some workers at gov. or fed. offices are so mean - and this specific lady seemed almost annoyed and dare I say a bit jealous - when I took them out of the pretty bag - she rolled her eyes and was like when we can get to them we will do it - then I asked her about canada and if I had the right stamp that annoyed her even more and she threw my invite on the thing to weigh it and said yes it is fine - then took my invites and just left them on her chair - in my kate' s paperie bag - I just worry that she may forget them and someone ont he next shift may think it belongs to an employee and then just leave them their - so I am going to take a walk there right now and peer over the counter at her work station to make sure they are done - hahahahahI AM CRAZY - but I will worry all day if I don't.

Re: Hand Cancelling Invites
Try not to worry. I waited in line and requested to hand cancel. The tough looking post woman said they would do it in the back.I probably looked frightened and she assured me they would be fine. Everytime I speak with someone who calls about the invite, I ask about the envelope. All good reports!
I stopped worrying about an hour after I mailed them. Whatever was going to happen, would.
