One Year Later and the Cake still tasted GOOD!

DH and I celebrated our one year anniversary this weekend. After going out to dinner on Saturday night, at midnight of August 7th we had cake and champagne. I took the cake out of the freezer on Thursday to start defrosting and let it sit out for an hour before slicing a piece.

Our cake was from Audrey's Bakery: yellow cake with raspberry, chocolate and white chocolate mousse and fondant icing. It tasted great, though glasses of milk went better with the cake than champagne.

How did you wrap it so it stayed good?

Re: One Year Later and the Cake still tasted GOOD!

I actually have my mom to thank for that. She brought the cake top home from the Vanderbilt and wrapped it in two layers of aluminum foil. Then she wrapped the cake top in two layer so saran wrap. She then put it in a freezer ziplock bag and wrapped that in a small size white garbage bag. Originally she was going to put the cake top in a tupperware storage container but the cake top wouldn't fit. She then put it in one of her freezer storage bins.

Two weeks ago I transported the cake top from their house on Long Island back to NYC via an insulated bag filled with ice.

Hope this helps!

Re: One Year Later and the Cake still tasted GOOD!

I was hoping our's was last the trip down to NC Sadly, it looks like it went thru a food fight - it's so disgusting It's still in the fridge - I dont' have the heart to throw it out. DH says he'll get me a new one for our anniversary - and I told my mom to throw it away while I'm not around so I don't see it

Re: One Year Later and the Cake still tasted GOOD!

i wanted to eat ours when we moved two weeks ago to celebrate the new house, also thinking year old cake sounds yucky. DH was like OMG we can't! we have to wait! i had no idea he would be a stickler for tradition and thought it was pretty cute! unfortunately we don't have the layered wrapping system-just a few layers of saran and i can only imagine the state that thing is in!

Re: One Year Later and the Cake still tasted GOOD!

On our one-month anniversary we cut the cake. We put one piece back in the freezer and ate the rest of it. We figured as long as we each have a bite of 'the' cake on our one-year anniversary, we'll fulfill the tradition without having to let the rest of the yummilicious cake get freezer burned.
