marriott near nassau colliseum??

anyone block rooms there for their wedding?

i already blocked rooms at the holiday inn in westbury but i like the marriott as well mainly because they have more of a restaurant feel which may be important because we have a daytime wedding and plan on continuing the party at the hotel.

i'm just worried about it being so close to nassau colliseum in case there's something big going on there.

any advice?

I went there to block my rooms, but I had that exact problem, so I ended up not doing it. They will know, call and ask

Re: marriott near nassau colliseum??

I wouldn't worry about it. I bet you really wouldn't even notice. If your wedding is during the day and you party after you'll probably be done by the time anything lets out. JMO. I say go for it if it is near your recep. site.

Re: marriott near nassau colliseum??

the hotel itself doesn't know if nassau colisseum has anything planned. they said they find out a few months before.

FH and i went there last weekend for a LIVA party and we had fun at the bar and the hotel looked nice. that's why i wanted to check it out.

i just don't know which to do...

Re: marriott near nassau colliseum??

I reserved rooms there for the weekend of my wedding. I like the fact that it is a large hotel with alot of amenities since I have so many OOT guests (bar, restaurant, pool, hair salon, etc). I was a bit concerned that there would be a large event at the colliseum but I figured it is such a large hotel my guests wouldn't notice.

Re: marriott near nassau colliseum??

We blocked rooms there for the weekend of our wedding. We did check to see if the Islanders were playing a home game and they are not so we are happy. The Harlem Globetrotters will be there the day after the wedding.

Here is the non-hockey event calendar through April 06:

Coliseum Event Calendar

Here is the NY Islander Website (you have to navigate the site to see if there is a game on your wedding day):

NY Islanders

I wouldn't ask the hotel, rather the Coliseum.

Re: marriott near nassau colliseum??

I see your problem. When there was hockey FH and I would go to a game every now and then and the lobby was mobbed wtih Islander fans and the bar was PACKED.
That would suck if it was going on during your weddding. Check the site for games since hockey is back on this year.
I was thinking of booking rooms there too and you brought up a great point I never thought of that..how about Melville????
Thanks for the info!

Re: marriott near nassau colliseum??

I blocked rooms there for my guests. I am lucky that the islanders are away the night before ( my girls and i are staying there the night before) and there is no game the night of. there is a home game the day after... but I will already be on my way to hawaii so that is OK w/ me
I got a good rate on the rooms, and the hotel does offer a lot of great things, the bar is fun and they will keep it open later for us!

Re: marriott near nassau colliseum??

Yes we blocked 20 rooms for two nights. The guests can book either 1 or 2 nights. I really didn't even think about anything going on at the Colesium. We were actually running out of options, believe it or not. The Wingate inn only had 10 rooms left and we needed more than that. The Holiday Inn was not booking rooms yet when I needed to do that and the Hilton Garden Inn only had a few rooms left plus the fact that they required a 2 night minimum stay because its a holiday weekend. Like Westbury is such a hot travel destination .
The Marriott has been very nice to deal with and they gave us a good rate.

Re: marriott near nassau colliseum??

thanks everyone for your help.

stupid question--but is there hockey in july? i checked the islanders schedule and it doesn't show anything. the nassau colisseum schedule only goes until april which is frustrating

i got a rate of $149. does that sound reasonable? the holiday inn quoted me $145 so it's only a few dollars different.

does anyone know how long they keep the bar open until?

Re: marriott near nassau colliseum??

I just have to add that my husband and I stayed there our wedding night, as did my OOT parents and brother. It rained cats and dogs my wedding day, and we ended up there taking indoor pictures in between the church and reception. They were very good to us.

Re: marriott near nassau colliseum??

this is all good to know.

i already blocked rooms at the holiday inn in westbury (across from the mall). i'm wondering if i should switch it to the marriott because you all have had good things to say.

since we're getting married during the day, i want to go back to the bar at the hotel and STAY IN MY DRESS and party! so i want everyone in the same hotel.

are there any other bars in there besides champions?
