Need some help w/reception location
Please give me honest opinions, would you rather have your reception at someplace that you're just okay with and have a large guest list or a place you love with only those friends and family that are closest to you. The location that I'm loving is quite expensive so I'll need to keep the guest list small.I'm not sure what to do, I have mixed feelings and he keeps telling me to do whatever I want. Big help, right?
Thanks

Re: Need some help w/reception location
i would go with place that you love. small receptions are the best b/c you can really talk to everyone there. and ultimately, its your wedding, do what you want.

Re: Need some help w/reception location
Honestly, you have to ask yourself what is more important to you. Personally, I'd want each and every one of my family members and friends at my wedding, so I'd choose a larger wedding. I suggest you look at other locations-- you might find one that you like a whole lot and is more in your budget. Good luck!

Re: Need some help w/reception location
Personally, I would like a smaller, more intimate wedding, but with the size of both our families, it just isn't going to happen.

ditto on that!
it really depends on how many people you will have to cut. we had to cut some people to have the reception at the hall I LOVED, but these are more distant relatives/ less close friends, so honestly I'm not too sad about it (really I wanted a super small wedding but my family is big and his is big so that will never happen). I would never have booked the hall though if I had to cut out close relatives/friends.
Good luck!

Re: Need some help w/reception location
I'd rather have everyone there to share with me than a really nice super expensive hall. What if you stick w/ the hall you love, but have it on a sunday afternoon or friday? Definitely keep looking, you'll find something!!! I wouldn't be able to cut out friends and fam... I want everyone there! JMO!

Thanks! I really like the idea of a more intimate wedding and the only people that would be cut would be very distant relatives and friends that we aren't all that close with. Most of his family is out the country and won't be coming.

Re: Need some help w/reception location
I know what you mean. I really loved the Jeriocho Terrace in Mineola but that was not in our budget. I think we are going to go with the Larkfield Manor that is not as extravagent a location but its also not a dump. It's rather cozy and with the right flowers, colors and music i think it will look beautiful. Good luck hunting. I'm sure you will find something perfect. Keep us posted on the planning.

That's what I'm worried about but I also feel a little bad if I don't invite everyone. I think I'll look around some more and then decide.

Re: Need some help w/reception location
maybe you can find a place that you both love and can accomodate the entire family...if not i would do the larger wedding at the place you like...it is NOT the hall that makes the wedding...of course it should be a place you are happy with, but the food needs to be good, the drinks need to be great and the music needs to be terrific, IMO the 3 most important items!

Re: Need some help w/reception location
Just make sure if you go with the more expensive place you don't have to guarantee a certain number of guests.

Re: Need some help w/reception location
The best advice I can give is to keep looking. I spent the last two months looking at 18 different reception halls. I honestly believe that when you find the place you love that will work for your budget, you know right away.

Re: Need some help w/reception location
Don't get me wrong I love the Manor east but there was a place that I fell in love with as soon as I walked in but it was out of our budget with the amount of people we are inviting and there is no way to cut down the list since we both have big families. I am very happy with my choice and I do love the manor east and think its a beautiful place and the staff is very nice and with everything else its going to be perfect and even when I look back on my pictures I am going to remember that this is one of the happiest days of my life cuz I married the man I love no matter where the reception was held

Re: Need some help w/reception location
You shouldn't make that decision based on the hall. Either you want a small initmate wedding with close friends and family, or you want to be able to celebrate with everyone. If you want something small then go with the hall you love. I'd hate for people to miss out on sharing in your joy just bc you wanted to have it at an expensive place.I'd hate to be a guest that couldn't be invited bc you couldn't afford to have me. JMO!!

Re: Need some help w/reception location
I gotta disagree with all the other posts. I feel family & friends and guests are more important than the apperience. Thats why were at Villa, its about the food which will make my guests have a great time and then make me have a great timeWelcome New Vendors
