E-Party &/or Bridal Shower??

With only 7 months left until the wedding my FMIL wants to throw an engagement party for us. I told my family and they are getting all huffy saying that its shady that we would have that, then a bridal shower, then the wedding in such short time because thats too many gifts to give.

I dont want to be ungrateful to my FMIL, and honestly, would love to have the party so our families can meet before the wedding, but my family thinks I shuld have one or the other (BS or Eparty).

What the heck do I do? Should I just tell my family no gifts for the Eparty?

Re: E-Party &/or Bridal Shower??

Why don't you just do a small e-party w/ immediate fam. Invite maybe 20-30 people and try to get it around by word of mouth that it's a get together and gifts are not needed.

Me too. I think your families should definitely meet one another. Have a small backyard thing with immediate family and call it a day. If it is small like that, I'm sure your family wouldn't have a problem with it. This way it is more of a family meeting then a 'party.' All this is JMO.

I also agree! You can tell some family members (like your parents) to speakd the word that gifts are not necessary.

I agree too. Tell them that it's a Meet and Greet and no gifts. Then ask your FMIL to put the money towards a nicer shower.

Do a meet and greet, I am sure it will all work out.

Re: E-Party &/or Bridal Shower??

Agree here also.

We're doing the same thing, his parents wants to meet my family, so we're just having a get together next month so that everyone can meet, as opposed to a renting out a hall, full out party.
