We are paying $500 which includes the singer and organist. The alter boys are usually given a tip, although it is not required.. maybe $20.

Re: What is your church fee?

$650 for officiant, organist and vocalist. I think its a little steep considering its not even a full mass, but it is what it is!

Do we really need to tip the alter boys/ girls? That's crap. Aren't they volenteers? Plus, it's kind of crap that we have to tip the priests. What happened to their vow of poverty?

Well, with that logic, why tip anyone? Aren't they doing their job, that you are paying handsomely for? Tipping is not required. At Pre-cana, we were told that it wasn't necessary to tip the priest and if we wanted to give the altar servers a few bucks it was up to us. We didn't have any altar servers show, so we didn't have to tip them, but we planned on giving them something.

Our church was $500, including the organist and the singer. You paid that whether you used the church's singer and musician or not, since they are paid for the wedding either way as part of their contract.

I don't mind tipping when it's my decision. When my FH's cousin got married the priest told him that he had to tip. And he even suggested an amount. That's crazy!

In that case, I agree with you

Some of the wedding tipping in general is out of control in my opinion, I guess I would rather throw $20 to a kid who is helping out on his/her free time, than tip a limo driver on top of the gratuity that I already had to pay up front, before the weddding. Sorry to go off.....

Don't apologize! That's why I'm here- to get other people's opinions. And now that you put it like that, you're right. I never thought of it like that. Now I don't wanna tip my limo driver anymore.

Re: What is your church fee?

$300 church
$210 organist

We will probably get the priest a gift as a thank you and we are going to tip the alter boys $20. Although the alter boys/girls volunteer to be alter boys they are only volunteering to do masses not to do weddings etc...they are just kids...even if you gave them something small they would be so appreciated...we were told that they look forward to it...I think it is so cute.
