Dressing Dad: do the fathers have to wear black vests?

The men in the wedding party are getting taupe colored vests - I wanted the fathers to wear that too -

my opinionated FMIL said that they should wear black. I yes her all the time then do what I want.

Do the dads have to wear black? what are you guys doing.

dh wore white, gm wore silver, and my dad wore charcoal grey.

i did want my dad to look differnt from the gm but i say do whatever you want! it's your wedding!!!

We are having our dads wear black. But I don't think that is what has to be done. I did want them to be different from groomsmen.

Both of our fathers are wearing black, but it is because that is what they wanted to wear. I don't see any reason though why they would have to.

I think that they can wear anything. I want my dad to wear something different from the groomsman but that is just my preference. You should do whatever you want.

His Dad is wearing black, my dad is wearing white. Thats what they chose - and as long as they're different from the groomsmen it doesn't matter to me.

Do whatever makes you feel comfortable

My DH wore white, BM, ushers, and Dad wore silver.

FH is wearing white, GMs are wearing a burgandy and the fathers/grandfather will be wearing black. I didn't want them to be the same as the bridal party...I wanted them to stand out because they are the fathers. I think you cna have them wear whatever but you might want them to stand out a little.

I think you should go with what you think looks nice-but I would want them to be different since they are dads

Ours wore black, but that was because I wanted them to be different that DH & the Gm. DH wore light gray & the GM wore dark gray.

If you want them in the same color as the GM, why don't you just change the sty;e of their tux. My DH wore a black vest and black tie, the GM wore black and dark red checked vest and tie, and our dads wore black vests and bow ties.

My FH is wearing black tux, ivory shirt, ivory vest and ivory bowtie

GM are wearing black tux, latte vests (to match the BM and latte bowtie

FOB & FOG are wearing black tux, ivory shirt, black vest, black tie

FH is wearing a silver vest and silver tie
GM are wearing black vest and black tie
My father is wearing a dark grey vest and tie.
I wanted my father to wear a different color than
the GM but that was my choice. You can have him
wear whatever you want.

Do what you want. It's your wedding. Fathers do not have to wear black vests. I wanted to distinguish everybody so FI is wearing ivory, GM are wearing silver, FOB and FOG are wearing charcoal grey, and my grandfathers are wearing a lighter grey (BMs are wearing a light pink which is why I have various shades of grey). You should choose whatever color will make you happy.

Funny thing was we wanted the dads in black vests but then they each wanted to do their own thing. The GM were in platinum vests and both dads ended up in platinum vests as well. I don't think there is a 'correct' way you have to dress them.

My dad wore black but my FIL wore a really nice goldish brown vest and tie...he looked so handsome and really complemented DH's mom.
