I start my new job tomorrow...

As the Dean of Discipline for the high school in my district. I have been a middle school counselor here for 6 years. I am sooo scared! I have so many new responsibilities and still don't know how to do this job yet. My whole office is in my car waiting to go, including my small fridge! It just seems so unreal.

If he doesn't behave himself you can actually give him detention, as a teacher, I can only give David a referral

Christine, I might need your initials on any referrals if I really need to turn them into a detention or suspension

You'll be great! Remember, don't let them see you sweat and don't let them CON you. Whenever one of my students is giving me a load of BS I say, 'Oh please, I didn't wear my boots today and everything you are saying is really ruining my shoes!' It might take them a minute but they get it.

Our Dean is called 'Head of Student Services'... no, can't we call it discipline and have some discipline

I will let you know how it goes- my official title is dean but I really am just in charge of discipline and everyone knows it! But the kids think I am going to be a push over compared the last guy that was there. Little do they know in this short little bod lurks a former New Yorker!

Congratulations Christine! You'll do fine--maybe some mistakes in the beginning, but that is normal.

It's great to take on new challenges IMO, even if it's scary. Some of the things that terrified me a year or two ago are no problem now.

Just an update! I love my new job- you teachers and counselors know the climate of the school is everything. The staff and faculty here are SOOO NICE and helpful. The custodian helped me move all my stuff and I didn't have to lift a finger. I also get my own golf cart to drive around campus- its so cool. I am so excited about this job!

I forgot to say--I love your title!

How goes the new job so far? I guess it's hard to say before school starts. It will probably be hard initially--if you're new, kids test you, but you'll do well.
