Escort/Place card ideas?

Does anyone have any ideas of unique ways to display place/escort cards? My reception hall does not provide them, and I would like to create something fun & special, instead of the usual folded tent cards.

I was thinking of the votive candles with names printed on them, but the problem with that is the guests dont know what to do with them during cocktail hour and end up leaving them somewhere (like in the bathroom or at the bar!), or going into the ballroom early to place them at their seats (which is what I DONT want them to do).

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

you want to put these out towards the end of cocktail hour... at that point, they would have it and bring it with them to the reception
