Engagement Party/Bridal Shower

My FI and I had an engagement party. However, I still would like to have a Bridal Shower. My friend who just got married had a bridal luncheon with her BMs, mother, and FMIL. But I guess I am just being selfish and I want the shower too.

Has anyone done both? Is that too many gifts to ask for?

Half of my registry is already gone b/c of the engagement party. I don't want to put meaningless things on the registry just to fill it up and have things for people to buy for me.

I was just wondering if anyone else has/had this problem.

Thanks

Re: Engagement Party/Bridal Shower

I'm sure your bms will still throw you a shower, and it's usually just the women closest to you, so I'm sure they'd all buy you gifts anyway

Re: Engagement Party/Bridal Shower

I had an engagement party and I'm having a shower too. The only difference is that I didn't have a registry when we had the engagement party, so most people gave money and some gave things like vases, etc. I think a shower is tradition and is a totally separate thing! There's nothing wrong with having one just because you had the other party. You can even make it a theme party - such as lingerie - if you don't have a lot left on your registry. IMO the engagement party was for the both of you, but the shower is for you and the girls.

Re: Engagement Party/Bridal Shower

I had both and engagement party and a shower. I got a lot of things off my registry at the engagement party and when it got closer to my shower I just added more stuff to my registry. FH and I needed alot of stuff because we lived at home and didn't have anything for a house.

Re: Engagement Party/Bridal Shower

My cousin and his fiance live together in a fully furnished house- so when it came time for the shower- there was barely a registry. When her mom sent out the invitations for the shower, she put in a little cards (different ones in each invite) that said things like- 'bring a gift that the couple can use on their honeymoon', bring a gift that the couple can use in the the kitchen (bedroom, bathroom, etc)', 'bring a gift that the couple can use on their first anniversary', etc. Unfortunately I was not able to make it to the shower becasue it was out of NY, but my aunt went and she said it was really nice. Especially because the gifts are personal from the guests.
