Do you and your FH / Husband agree politically?

Sensitive topic for many..but I found out that many of my FH's family do not think alike when it comes to politics. My FH and I just happen to think the same on many topics, including this.

Just wondering what it's like for everyone else.

For the most part we do, but we disagree more with others in both families.

Yes. We are both politically active so it would be complicated if we didn't agree as we spend our free time working for political causes.

Re: Do you and your FH / Husband agree politically?

Not really. He is an active Republican and I am a Democrat. However, I am VERY conservative on some issues (ie. education) and liberal on others (ie. abortion). We do not talk politics very often and he surely does not impose his beliefs on me. He respects me too much to try to convert me to a way of thinking (and living) that I am not comfortable with.

Not really. We have healthy debates, but we usually end it right away.

Re: Do you and your FH / Husband agree politically?

He's a registered independent and I'm a Democrat. We both voted for Clinton twice and Kerry. . . I think he voted for Bush against Gore but I didnt know him back then.

He's fiscally conservative but he leans more blue than red. We both voted for Guiliani and Bloomberg. . . and we both HATE Pataki.

Re: Do you and your FH / Husband agree politically?

somewhat.

I'm a Democrat. he's not a registered Republican, but he is definitely more to the right.

It's kind of weird though. he's not conservative, he's more open minded than I am, and I'm supposed to be a liberal lol.

I have voted for Pataki who is a Republican and I would vote for Guiliani if he runs for president.

at the end of the day, neither of us is extreme left or right.

Re: Do you and your FH / Husband agree politically?

For the most part, yes we do agree. We're both Democrats. There are however some issues that one of us is more conservative than the other. It's interesting that most people we know assume that we don't agree at all politically since he moved to the USA when he was 19 but that isn't the case at all.

You guys sounds kind of like us - I'm definitely as socially liberal as possible, but I have some libertarian tendencies. He's pretty conservative - a believer in state's rights and strict constitutional interpretation, but he's really thought about his beliefs so I respect him for that. I have much more respect for people who educate themselves about the issues and then decide where they and their values fall than for people who just blindly accept that which sounds right and fail to recognize that they may not understand the whole issue. We don't try to convert each other and these issues don't come up often, but when they do, we have calm and meaningful discussions. I never thought that could happen with someone who disagreed with me, but I guess that's why we're right for each other.

I agree with you 100%. I say it all the time and it drives me crazy when people just go with the general consensus on something or take the opinion of whichever party they allign themselves with without fully understanding the issue or deciding what is right for them personally. I have this problem frequently at work because I will not just go with the flow and take so and so's position on an issue as gospel.

Nope!

There are a ton of things we disagree in... sports... politics... etc.

I wonder how we are still married.

Re: Do you and your FH / Husband agree politically?

We do agree on the 'big' issues for the most part and so does out family. But I think it's partly due to the fact that we have similar backgrounds and see things from a broader scope...the news in the US tend to be very self absorved, we get different angles since politics in our countries are so different.

Re: Do you and your FH / Husband agree politically?

this will sound cruel but
Franky who cares what my husband thinks polictically? He can't vote. He hasnt gotten his citizenship so he cant complain. If we disagree I just stop and say 'who cares what you think?'

that being said

yes, we agree on a lot but he has his own views and I take them into consideration. SOme of what he says makes sense.. other stuff I agrue and he sees my way. Both of us are open to the others opinion but only I vote. So I make the 'decision' for the home.

Re: Do you and your FH / Husband agree politically?

For the most part, we're on the same page with most of the big stuff. But eventhough we're registered as the same party, we both look closely at the specific topic at hand- i dont vote for my party just for the sake of it, nor does he. However, i tend to be much more liberal on many topics. we see eye to eye on certain topics- pro-choice, gay marriage, etc... basically all of the 'live and let live' topics (neither of us feels its our place to say what people in such situations should or shouldnt be 'allowed' to choose).. but w/ other things- we have a difference of opinions. we respect the others opinions, but for the most part, we hardly talk politics anyway (i've probably talked about politics more in the past 2 days than i have in the past year ).

For the most part we do. I tend to disagree more w/ my FFIL then w/ FH. FH and I are pretty much the same politically.
