I feel like the new kid on the first day of school. I also am so overwhelmed by what I need to know and do. I just need some hugs...

You'll get to know the others, and it will be fine. It takes people time to open up to you though, esp. if you are in a supervisory role.

I am feeling much better now and I just wanted to thank you for the hugs- they helped so much.

I really love my new job- I had my first suspension today- it was so exciting to be the final say in the discipline-it went really well and the parents actually thanked me for my help and respect of their children. It was really great having the first one go well. I am loving being the dean!

I am in charge of all the at-risk students who need to make up credits and refer them to independent study and continuation school, handle all discipline infractions including dress code, cell phone/ipod use during school, deal with truancy and lateness, teacher referrals for bad behavior, supervise security staff, enforce residency requirements for parents who lie to get their students into our school- I think that covers the jist of it. I am part of the counseling staff but handle all the negative stuff. I also do get to counsel kids who are struggling and help them to do better so its not all negative stuff each day.

that sounds quite interesting....we could probably use of those types of deans at our school! I am one of three social workers but there still is not enough support for counseling, nurturing the kids...
