Does anyone expect a level of customer service that you're just not getting?
Ugh - I am so annoyed. Throughout this planning process I have become painfully aware of the less-than-stellar level of customer service out there.I am constantly shocked as to how people WILL NOT go a little bit out of their way to make a bride happy. I have encountered it in a bunch of places.
Most recently, I contacted my hall and said I wanted to come by with my wedding planner after work to look at the space - their response, 'ok, well you can't come at 6:00, it will have to be 5:30 because we lock the doors at 6:00'. I'm sorry, but this is a NYC event hall....leave the doors open for 15 minutes while a bride paying a HUGE sum of money to use your event space is showing her wedding planner around...!!! UGH!
I called and wrote a well-known makeup artist on here, and she has called me and written me back twice using my wrong name!!! It's Alicia NOT Alice! To me that is just unprofessional, and if she can't take the time to get my name right, then I don't think I want to use her for my wedding...especially not for the $250+ I'll be paying her for my makeup!!
I don't want to be a *****, but my family and I are laying out a shitload of money here, and I just can't believe how unprofessional some of these vendors are - and this is NYC where you would think you would have to have a GREAT level of service to make it as a vendor! Sorry, but I just can't settle for mediocre when thousands upon thousands of dollars are being laid out.
Does anyone agree with me or am I just being nitpicky?

I agree completely. There are tons of vendors out there competing for our business. The ones that provide good customer service get the raves on the boards, the ones that do not, well, we know what happens to them. But it amazes me that some of them are still in business after they provide less than stellar service to lots and lots of people, not just the isolated bad incident.

I havent booked too many vendors yet but I'm finding it strange that negotiating with them is so difficult. I mean, besides paying cash for everything to save on tax, no one wants to give you a break or throw stuff in. even if it doesnt really cost them anything more.AArrg.

Everyone is bringing up great points. You pay a lot fo money, and you should get what you want.
However, and I don't mean to play devil's advocate or anything, it's just my honest opinion....vendors are HUMAN beings as well with families and lives as well. If they are open during the weekends, you can expect them to be closed at least one other day during the week. There are 7 days in a week...if they're closed on one day - try the other 6.
It's all about compromising and being selective. If a vendor turns you off for some reason, stick with your gut feeling and move along to someone else.
You do not have to sacrifice QUALITY b/c of price.
