Sensitive Subject - Tipping

I hesitate to bring this up because I remember how ugly this thread got about a year ago on this very topic...but here's my question. Let me preface by saying I am generally an "over"tipper and have no problem tipping. When it comes to the photographer and videographer how are you planning to handle (or have handled) tipping. First, both are the owners of their own studios but bringing assistants. Second, how do you tip when you haven't actually seen the work they have done? If you know what I mean? Any advice on tipping for the Photographer and Videographer (who are getting dinner, etc.), please let me know what you are thinking about. Thanks MUCH!

We tipped all of our vendors. We kept a certain amount in envelopes, and my husband kept extra cash in his wallet in case someone was great. We wound up doubling the tips for the photographer and videographer. I don't tip owners of the business since they receive the profits directly. We did; however, tip the assistants. Hope this helps.

KK- thank you, would you mind giving me a "round about" number that you gave the assistants? If you are more comfortable, e-mail me at lee26@ivillage.com. Thanks!

Sure. Here's what it was (if my memory serves me correctly!!!) Video guy and assistant $100 Photographer and assistant $100 total Maitre'd tip was a % of our bill so we gave whatever they told us to according to contract Bridal girl (can't think of what her title is) that helps you at reception site $25 or $50--can't remember but it was one of those. Probably $25 DJ and assistant $50 total Limos were a little over $100 for 2 drivers. Did I miss anyone? I didn't tip the florist bc it's her own business.
