Re: NWR ing direct
I heart ING. I have multiple accounts with them. It's fabulous, because once you have an account you can have as many separate accounts as you want and you can switch money between them whenever you want. I have one account that takes money out of my checking for my car insurance every week (less money more often, you don't notice it as much as a big chunk all at once) that I transfer back into my checking every 6 months. It's absolutely fabulous. They also have CDs with even higher interest rates available if you won't be needing your money for a while (mine is a 1-year).

Re: NWR ing direct
I think 10 days is the maximum, it's usually only a few days between when it's in my checking and when it's in my ING or vice-versa. It's an imperfect system and not ideal if you will need your money asap, but if you know in advance, you can switch it out of your ING a few days before you need to write your check. There's also a little bar at the top of the screen when you check your account that tells you how much interest you've earned to date... it's always surprisingly high!

Re: NWR ing direct
In regards to the 10 day wait on transfers, that is after you transfer money into ING, there is a 10 day wait before you can transfer the money back out.If you want to transfer the money from ING to your checking account, that will usually only take 2-3 days.

Transfers do not take that long. The only delay is if you transfer on a Friday night or holiday it may not show up until Monday or Tuesday.
HSBC has a 3.75% rate right now for on-line savings. I signed up for that and moved some of the money from ING (not all) to HSBC to see how it will work out. The plus with HSBC is you can make cash deposits and withdrawals at the ATM
no waiting for a transfer to clear

Re: NWR ing direct
Try EmigrantDirect.comThey have historically better rates than ING Direct. Currently 4% compared to ING's 3.4%.
They also have just as good (if not better) service than ING.
I also think they have 4% interest checking!

What kind of return are you expecting? $510 a year isn't too bad for just parking money.
But of course if you would have went with Emigrant like I posted.... that same yearly return jumps up to $600.
$600 a year pays for my homeowners insurance! Free homeowners insurance for just parking my money. Not bad IMO.

Re: NWR ing direct
I have an ING account and I'm really pleased with it. I know there are accounts that earn higher interest but you can't kill yourself moving from one to another all the time. ING is consistantly high, easy to use and I'm with them right now. If I wasn't with them right now I might be another story. But I'll stay where I am for now.Oh, and I like the 2-3 day lag in getting the money back. It helps curve my spending!

Re: NWR ing direct
I have ING too. I've had it for YEARS... I'm pretty sure it was the first online savings account that offered such a competitive rate (it was 6% back then but dropped with every Fed drop, and has been increasing with every increase). HSBC does offer a higher rate at the moment, but HSBC is new to this from what I know. I have had my checking account with them for 3 years and I just recently started to hear about this online savings account. To be honest, I'm worried that they can keep it up. ING has a high rate because there's like no overhead - HSBC can't say the same thing because there are branches and ATM's, etc. while ING is mostly virtual, so I wonder if this will last. Emigrant is completely unknown to me... I'm planning on keeping my $ in ING for now and watching HSBC. I might start looking into Emigrant too as admittedly I'm intrigued. But as far as savings accounts go, these are by far the highest savings account rates you can get - most banks give 1-2%. Otherwise, you need to look at different vehicles for your $.

Hmmmm. There is an Emigrant Bank down the street from me. I have only gone inside once (they don't have a notary
) but I never checked rates. Is the 4% rate just for on-line accounts?

Re: NWR ing direct
I love ING! When I first opened my account with them, they gave me $25. That is where all of our wedding savings is. It collects good interest and is easy to access.

Re: NWR ing direct
I have had an ING account for years now. I originally had a CD with them and changed to the Orange Savings last year. It has been truly instrumental in helping me plan for my wedding. I have automatic deductions on a weekly basis from my checking account and whenever it's time to pay for something (like I had to pay for my dress last week) I just transfer the money over, which takes about 2 days and voila. I withdraw and pay. It's the greatest! I will definitely use it to begin saving for my house once all wedding stuff is paid off.

4% is really good and 4% on checking?!!! wow we just put everything into a 6 month Money Market Account with Bank of America and its only 3.something and 0% on checking. Hopefully those rates will still be available when its time to renew ours. Welcome New Vendors
