When did/will you start looking for a place to live?

If you're not already living together and you don't have a place, how far ina dvance did you start looking for an apartment to move into after the wedding?

We bought a house together a year ago and it took us over 6 months to find that

We want to start looking for a place atleast 6 months in advance.

we're renting right now. but we're going to start looking pretty much right after the wedding. I hear that the winter is the best time to buy anyway, so it works out

Well I don't know if we are going to buy a condo or rent. but either way we will be ready before hand.

We are both teachers so we will be looking in the summer of 2006.

everything happened fast for us... got engaged in Feb, started looking for a house in May, got lucky and found our dream house real quick! put an offer on a house beginning of June and closed on the house the middle of August. Wedding is in November!

We found a great apartment only a few weeks after we decided to move in together. Apartments.com is what we used, they show you what's in your area and has the amenities you're looking for in your price range.

After we signed the lease it was another 2 months while the previous tenant moved out and then they did some renovations. HTH!!

We're planning on looking about three/four months before the wedding. We'd like to be in our new place at least a month and a half before the wedding, so when we get back afterwards it will already feel like home. Unfortunately, we can't look any sooner (we'd love to move in to a new place ASAP), because I'll be switching jobs and I don't know how much $$$ I'll be making yet, so we don't know our price range.
I think really you have to decide when you want to move in and start looking a month or two before that. It might not make sense to look too far in advance if you're renting an apartment, because most places don't get listed until they're ready to be rented and the landlord will want to rent it out quickly. If you're looking to buy or rent a house or condo you might want to start sooner.

Well we planned on getting a house before the wedding. However we don't want to feel pressured with money so we decide to hold if off to start looking about 4m months before the wedding and hopefully close right before or right after!

It would be ideal to close a month or two before the wedding.

We did a lot of looking so we know the market and what we are looking for.

We still look now but we aren't getting anything unless we find a steal!

We were living together before we moved in on our own. We moved in together in July, probably because we moved to Florida.

we're planning to buy something whether it's a house or condo around March/April or so. I need as much time as possible to save and not have to pay a mortgage too long before the wedding.

We were engaged December 03 and started looking for a house in March 04 and then stopped for a bit and then started looking again later in the year. It took us a few months but we found the townhouse we now own. My advice...start early so you are not rushed into taking something you don't love.

Sometimes it is. We started looking for an apartment just to see what was out there in April and we got married in August.

50 apartments later, we finally found one and took possesion August 1st, cleaned, painted, and got married on August 18th. We seriously thought we would be living with my IL's for a while after we got married.

Trust me, we weren't being that picky. All I wanted was a bathroom I wasn't skeaved out to take a shower in. And some of the rents people were asking for a nothing apartment was insane.

It's a good idea to start looking early just to see what's out there and what you can afford.
