Wedding Dress Shopping Question

How long before your wedding day are you planning to buy / did you buy your wedding dress??

I recently joined weight watchers and hoping to lose more than a few pounds between now and the wedding. I was thinking Feb / Mar may be a good timeframe to start shopping but hoping thats not too late. Any thoughts??

Re: Wedding Dress Shopping Question

It depends on the designer of the dress. Some dresses take a year to come in while others take 2-3 months. Some of the ladies who have bought dresses at David's Bridal have gotten their dress in as little as 2 months.

Re: Wedding Dress Shopping Question

I respectfully disagree with the 9-11 month arrival.

I ordered in August and it will be here well before my wedding. (total of 7 months)

It depends on designers but it also depends on some shops.

My cousin ordered her dress very early and then lost some weight and was so nervous. She called the shop and they didn't place the order.

Where I went, they were placing 'all the March' orders at the end of that month.... so even if I went in in July...my dress wouldn't had been ordered till August.

I too, am trying to drop a few pounds for the wedding. I ended up ordering my dress pretty much accurate and am slowly but surely trying to lose it.

If you are getting married in November, I think February is fine!

Re: Wedding Dress Shopping Question

i ordered mine a year in advance. It should be in any day now. I'd rather have it earlier than later! I also needed time to have my veil made etc!

Re: Wedding Dress Shopping Question

You're definately okay if your wedding isn't until next October. My engagement is only going to be 9 months (got engaged this past Feb and am getting married in Nov). I ordered my dress in the beginning of April and it's here. In fact, I have my first fitting on Saturday. My dress is a Jasmine and we totally changed the design of the dress and even with that it only took 5 months to come in.

Re: Wedding Dress Shopping Question

I ordered my dress late May/early June and they told me it would take 6-7 months to come in... It came in August... So they tell you more time than it really takes but I would definitely start getting ideas and styles at the 8-9 month mark...

Re: Wedding Dress Shopping Question

I'd rather have it earlier rather than later, better safe than sorry for alterations or if anything should happen to go wrong. I ordered mine in April '05 for my June '06 wedding, it's due November '05.

You should def start looking for the style that you want, even if you're not ready to order. It'll make it easier for when that time comes.
