Sad news...

My family got a phone call this evening saying that our family priest (who was supposed to marry FH and I) has resigned. He has been my priest for all 25 years of my life and I am SO sad that he will not be marrying me.

It appears that this may be due to the Bishop pushing him out for whatever reason but the reasons for his resignation are still not clear. FH and I are not too sure who will marry us, or WHERE we will get married now. Aside from our wedding, my priest is a truely wonderful, genuine, loving, and caring person and this day is a sad one for my church.

Re: Sad news...

I'm sorry to hear that. I used to be attached to the priest at my parish too. But, I moved away from that area, so he didn't resign-but I kinda know how you feel.

The officiant who is marrying us used to be a Catholic priest also. He resigned as well. I wanted to suggest thinking about asking your priest to marry you at Giorgios? Unless you definitely want to get married at church...maybe he can still marry you, just not in the church. It's a personal decision but it's possible. He can still probably legally marry couples, just like our officiant (Tom McCormick) does.

If you truly want to get married in church, I'm sure the priest taking hi spot will be great too.

Re: Sad news...

I'm so sorry to hear that. Maybe your priest can perform the ceremony at his new parish? or maybe you can have the ceremony at Giorgios and he can perform?

From what I am hearnig, my priest has "taken off hiscollar" as they say. he has decided not to work for the Catholic faith anymore...as I stated earlier, we are not sure what lead this on but we think it has something to do with the Bishop. I am going to his house tomorrow and try to talk to him about this. I am hoping that maybe he can marry us at Giorgios, but I would prefer to get married in my church. I am so confused about what to do, but I have to wait until I have more info

Re: Sad news...

Im so sorry to hear that sweetie. Unfortunately in today's world of the Catholic church the shortage of priests is affecting all parishes. Hang in there. Im sure another great priest in your parish will marry you
