Engagement Announcements?

Just out of curiosity, did anyone send out engagement announcements or did you just call everyone?

We didn't b/c we had an engagement party. What I did do was in our Xmas cards, but a little (business card size) piece of papaer saying 'We're Engaged'

We put our engagment announcement on our E-party invites. We are also putting our engagement in the paper around Xmas time.

I dont think we are going to have an e-party... but I want to send e-announcements... etiquette-wise, is that wrong to do or does that look like you're just asking for a gift? I just want everyone to know and see a nice picture, but I dont want to do it if it'll be looked at as poor taste! :)

My fmil made me send them out with the eparty cards. If your not doing an e-party why not combind your announcment with save the date. like

SAVE THE DATE!
Jenna Anne Smith
and
David Allen Green
are engaged to be married on Saturday June 24th 2006.

I don't know something like that. I honestly don't think people will think your gift greedy. People are often happy to hear the good news.

We didn't but everyone wanted us to. We're having an eparty instead, but we got printed invites from Party City.

We sent them out! But they were also STD's and mentioned our new address since we had just moved in together.

We sent engagement announcements to the family that we dont talk to on a regular basis. Only about 50 of them. We made them from the invitation kit at staples

My mother managed to tell everyone she knew BEFORE I got the ring. She went shopping for the stone with FH and within two days there was only 1 family member or friend of hers that didn't know.
