As a guest at a wedding, do you tip the staff?

Just wanted to see what we all do. We tipped our table server at a few weddings we went to because the service they provided to us was extraordinary.

We usually do because that way the drinks keep coming and the staff gets you whatever you want-

At parties I might tip someone who really went of their way to do something. But I think only people who really drink a lot give tips.

Re: As a guest at a wedding, do you tip the staff?

I only tip if the person goes out of his/her way. I feel as a guest at a wedding, a certain level of service is expected. But if someone goes above and beyond, I feel they should be recognized.

My FH ALWAYS tips, a lot too.

He used to work for a catering hall when he was in HS so he tends to be very generous

Re: As a guest at a wedding, do you tip the staff?

Usually we tip them so that we get "special" treatment. I know it sounds crazy but we've had waitstaff get us drinks while we're out on the dancefloor when they're not even supposed to be getting us any kind of beverages!

We do the same. The whole table pitches in & gives the waiter money.

If I go to a wedding with my drinking friends, everyone at the table gives $10 - $20 at the beginning of the reception to make sure the drinks keep coming.

Otherwise, I would only tip the bartender.

I personally never have.... just the bar staff - pretty decent too - the drinks just seem to taste better when we do

Re: As a guest at a wedding, do you tip the staff?

I will tip the waitstaff if they go above and beyond, some people just put in the extra effort. I always tip the bartender when I go to get a drink.

Re: As a guest at a wedding, do you tip the staff?

I have tipped the bartender, coatroom, valet and bathroom people but never the wait staff. All they have ever done for me at any wedding I attended was to take my order and bring food. I have never seen them bring drinks etc to the table. I always go to the bar for my own drinks. I have only begun to wonder about this recently with vendors adding tip into costs and then people tipping on top. I hate to think that the wait staff doesn't get their tips but I wouldn't be surprised. The whole wedding thing gets sooo expensive!!

Re: As a guest at a wedding, do you tip the staff?

We always tip the bartenders, but at one wedding the waiter was so good that we didn't need to go to the bar, so we tipped him. Of course we also tip the valet guy.

Re: As a guest at a wedding, do you tip the staff?

We always tip the bartenders & our waiter for the night. I have two cousins that are waiters for catering halls & although you would think the 18% gratutity would be split among the waiters in some places it isn't. My cousin told me that the caterining hall she works at she gets a flat fee of $55 or $65 for the night depending on what package the bride & groom pick. That is it. I know how much I am paying in grautity & there is no way that it works out.
Just thought i would share

Re: As a guest at a wedding, do you tip the staff?

We always tip the bartender (obviously). If the wait staff is exceptional then we tip them too. FH husband likes to overtip EVERYONE!! He was in the service industry for a long time and it's just how he is. Personally I think tips should vary based on service.
